I don't base anything around health insurance. It is, so far, basically a waste of money for me.
I have 2 doctor appointments each year.
A DOT physical, which the company pays for.
And once a year I have to see 'my' doctor to get my BP med renewed.
But the feds say I have to have it, and the child support people made me have it for my daughters until this year.
All of them are over 18 now so I don't have to keep them on it anymore. But I'm keeping it because they use it more than I do.
But for me it is a total waste of money.
If I got something really bad, I would be out of work and lose the insurance anyway because I could not pay the premiums.
Are any of the job listings legitimate?

Man such much i could accurately rant about regarding Illinois, BS 1099/per diem, lack of health insurance...
In honor of Reo's excellent post i'll stay on topic so he doesn't have to moderate me... again...
OP have you considered staffing agencies? They are like a corporate mob i guess but i've never heard about them burying people in shallow graves in Nevada or Jersey...... -
tscottme, Rideandrepair and Chinatown Thank this.

A lot of demands here. I would get on the road making $$$$, and then continue to look for your perfect job. All you're doing is hanging out at home NOT making any $$$, but making lots of demands....luck to ya'

It isn't a bad thing. Social Security works when EVERYONE pays into it. 1099 or contract work when full time is more complex. Again classic stratification of the classes planned and orchestrated to diminish what little collective power the middle class had. See Nancy Maclean "Democracy in Chains" for an empirical inside look at a pretty damning account of policy unfolding real time between "our" countries power brokers.
TDT, as i stated you and I are more alike. You live in the real dairy state you CheeseHead. Have you considered driving tankers for milk/whey?
I hadn't either until my nephew, against my sound economic advice decided to jump ship for $5 more dollars an hour since his hours where getting whittled away because of employer/economy. Don't get me wrong he was still 60 hours a week as an hourly company driver but got addicted to that 80 hour pay w/naps to survive. Not only that but this is his 5th job now in going on 8 years of driving.
He told me they weren't hiring new drivers and i made my best persuasive argument and the owner said he doesn't hire new drivers needing a cdl but since i have the cdl, fedmed and a drop of experience that he would get me an exception with his insurance as he already did for two other of his drivers.
The unreal part of the story is the GM supplier factory i worked at for 16 years, his dad who started the milk transport company was a truck driver for us and started his company with one truck from another milk transport outfit that went out of business in that nasty 08 recession. His dads retired, was on vacation in Florida when i called and still answering the phone to his baby, company. Wants to see his legacy live on no doubt. Small world sometimes.... wish i had gotten into trucking loooong ago.
Cows always need milking and milk always needs to be delivered unless you see the world giving up dairy products anytime soon. -
The thing that’s continually overlooked is the fact that there are already rules about who and who isn’t an employee. And those rules currently aren’t enforced. So of course the natural reaction is we need more rules because the rules that aren’t enforced aren’t working. And then you end up with a broad swath of the paintbrush that effects a lot of people who were doing things correctly to begin with. Explain to me how an employee being paid 1099 illegally is in the same group as someone who owns their own truck (not a lease purchase through a carrier) and is leased to a carrier. Because with all these new rules that everyone seems to think are ok since some are doing it wrong they are in the same group.
