Just went through one willy nilly commercial shakedown/impromptu commercial vehichle checkpoint in Arizona. I was amazed not a peep about it on the cb radio. It was eerily silent, as though no one wanted to say anything. Is it illegal to let other truckers know about such check points? In general I hear very little on my regional runs anyways. Seems too bad; I remember getting some good laughs from the cb years back........![]()
Are C.B.'s a thing of the past?

Go to Smurfitt Stone in Panama City and you'll soon find out CB's are not a thing of the past, CB's in the logging industry are like a status symbol, I heard "Knight Rider" leaving the woods headed to the mill, thing about it is they're logging in APALACHICOLA

Im missing something, "Years back", with 1 year driving.
trucker_101 and 123456 Thank this. -
not a thing of the past as nothing can really let you converse with others in a hurry.like you just will not have every driver's cell phone number... no it is NOT illegal to warn other drivers of the bears (smokies), scales that are opened, etc,etc....i turn down my radio and only talk on it when i have a need to, and you thought that was eerily quiet..??
you should have been driving out that way some 20-21 years ago when i was (first starting to drive)...the AM/FM radio could not pick up any signals, the cb radio was quiet, and there wasn't any satellite radio.....
the only "entertainment" i had was when the bugs made splatter noises on the windshield... -
I ran from Palm Springs to Kingman yesterday in my P/U and brought along a hand-held, just for giggles. I ran I-10 then up to Needles etc. and into Kingman on I-40. I heard nothing on I-10 at all, and some wheel polisher at Loves Exit 9 in Az. That's it. No chatter at all.
-
i been along that way..i used to make my regular stop the Petro in Kingman, that still there..??
-
I've noticed a big drop in CB chatter now compared to mid 2008. Not all a bad thing, either, less morons pretending they're singers these days.
Rerun8963 Thanks this. -
Just because I've been driving a truck for one year doesn't mean I haven't been on the road with a cb for 30..... 'Einstein'

Oh, they're still out there, between that and the ones playing with their "Roger Beeps."
