Are certain states bad to fuel in?

Interesting. I haven't seen those yet. I'll have to start looking. Lol. Doesn't make sense to me though is the next state over is $0.25 per gallon cheaper. Lol

Well the short answer would be the 2nd state where the tax was .80. But I don't have short answers. So if the first state was nj, and the sec9nd state was Penn. It would depend. How many times have I crossed pa and how much fuel have I bought there already? If I've bought enough to cover pa already this month. (Yes I no it goes by quarters) Then I will buy in nj and save money in my pocket today. Remember that old commercial pay me now or pay me later? Sometimes a bird in the gand is betrer than 2 in the bush. Possibly you will disagree but what has worked for me for 27 years continues to work.

In that example you would be further ahead to buy the 3.50 with .8 ifta making it 2.70 over the 3.00 with .2 ifta making it 2.80.
Forget everything else. About how much per month or communist state or whatever other hang ups you have. The 3.50 is less. Every time. Stop thinking at this point.

I understand your point but I don't agree with it. Which is ok cause we can agree to disagree. Lol. What you do is like having an employer withhold extra taxes out of a paycheck so you never have to pay in at the end of the year. You like to have states withhold more taxes now so you don't have to pay at the quarter. Nothing wrong with that if that's how you prefer to do it. I don't do that cause it can and will cost me money to do that. I always but the cheapest fuel once fuel tax is deducted.

You're correct, the $3.50 is less cost to the O/O which is where I would fuel also. It easy to put a little extra money in my own account drawing interest to pay my fuel tax at the quarter. Now I'm making money by having fuel cost and earning a little interest on tax money. Lol.

    That's a win/win to me.

If you buy 16,000 gallons a year and pay .10 a gallon more just to pay the tax at the pump 1.600 extra in fuel cost . I seriously doubt your making more than that in interest.

What has worked for 27 years is fine...but how much more $$$$ could you have in your pocket right now if you'd saved 5-10 cents per gallon by fueling where the actual fuel cost (pump price minus state tax) was the lowest? You're paying the same taxes either way, whether you pay a lot for your fuel now to save on the lower pump price in the low tax state, or if you pay less for your fuel but pay the higher pump price and get credits for the high tax rate.
