are current production trucks really this badly built?

That stinks. There are situations where an autoshift is an absolute benefit.... Of course if you worked where I work with a totaled left knee you wouldn't be able to do farm pickup anyways. You would have to stick to transport work, not that there is anything wrong with that. I'm up ladders on tankers and in the milk houses all day long. It was a struggle coming back to work with a limited functional right knee. I learned how to keep my right knee straight and lift myself with the left knee. It's getting much better now, but those first few it was very stiff.

What's the highest capacity DD transmission? It does sound like they are a much more intelligent system. Personally I find an autoshift much less interesting to drive anyways.

The DT12 will handle 2050 torque.

No I'm good on ladders and do just fine but in traffic clutching constantly swells up the knee so automated it is

Kenworth has some pretty bargain prices on new 680's with a paccar. $130K's including FET.

Now one with a Cummins is gonna run you $20K more.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmm.

If Cummins had a 13L engine that you can actually get your hands on I would try one, but they don’t so I’ll stick with the MX13. The benefits for me outweigh the negatives. Between the difference in fuel economy and additional payload I can haul it came out to just under $22k for last year compared to what the guys with X15’s did. And in 3 years that X15 truck isn’t going to be worth $66k more than my Paccar so I’ll keep putting the extra money in the bank.

I talked to the Freightliner dealer back in November and tried to spec a truck through them. He told me a Cascadia with DD13 and midroof bunk would be a little over 17k pounds. But I guess I didn’t look like I wanted to buy a truck or something because I called him two months later and he hadn’t gotten around to spec’ing the truck I wanted yet. I thought about Mack but from the little interaction I had with them the salesman didn’t seem to crazy about doing a truck the way I want as far as wheelbase and such. So I’ll stick with an MX13 powered 579.

    alds Thanks this.

We ran em in the oilfields with schlumberger. 2011-2014s 425/1650 pretty stout pullers for a 12L. That's all the info i have on em
