Quote from one of the mods: "Trucking Truth officially recommends you stick with your first company for at least a year before you start job hopping. This is regardless of how you pay for your training."
I've found that site to be almost an idolation of the website founder. It appears the mods do major butt-kissing to the whatever the site owner says. Any non-braindead views expressed by anyone not drinking the koolaid, especially as a new driver, gets shot down quick, by the henchmen.
It feels like a cult of some sort, when reading "advice" responses. I think I saw a post there one time refering to TTR as the evil site ...hahaha.
None of the responders told the OP that he can always move on to another employer, and that its only a financial obligation to the initial company. I know 2 people that went to Swift, and after OTR training, they got engaged with other industry players with ZERO consequences. All they had to do was either pay off the Swift Academy fees (out of pocket or monthly) OR get the contract buy-out from the next carrier.
In my previous professional jobs, non-compete were laughable (yes, I was in IT) coz they were not enforceable. No ones is going to tell me I cannot earn a living, esp with my skill sets. If I choose to sell my skills to another company, I sell them. When it comes time to move on, I move on...simple.
I guess this "cloud-over-drivers-head" is exacerbated by threats to insert damaging comments to the DAC. Its only a matter of time before these companies get sued big time.
I know I only have my CDL for 6 months so far, but I dont have to "beg" a company to hire me. I paid out of pocket, and I have the freedom to engage with anyone....at any time. Im lucky to have a few OTR friends, who allow me to drive their trucks from truck stops to mechanic shops, to keep my skills fresh, but I would tell the OP not to feel caged by these "contracts".
If you want out, seek another company, and keep it moving. Pay them off monthly/weekly or whatever, but dont get enslaved by the megas.RollingRecaps and Lepton1 Thank this. -

I definitely understand that it's a financial agreement that will need to be repaid but I heard that this company will sue another company for trying to hire me if I don't stay the whole contract length.
