I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading here, especially from people who should have been doing this long enough to know better.
Yeah yeah yeah, I know, you guys use your Super Secret Jedi Trucker Sense to JUST KNOW when something's in your blind spot, and "if you ain't got that, boy, you just ain't no Real Truck Driver. I ain't never puttin' them fender mirrors on my truck, 'cause people might think I don't know what I'm doing and my little ego might get all bruised."
Hey--your truck, your choice. But you might wish to consider that your Old School techniques were developed in an era when there was less traffic, less distractions for 4-wheelers to amuse themselves with at the wheel, and when far more people actually knew how to drive. Things are vastly different today, and when you're staring at the remains of a bike or a Dumb Car crushed under your right-hand drives...well, let's just say looking stupid is going to be the least of your problems.
After almost 18 years, I've learned that the dumbest thing you can do, is to be too ####y and self-important not to use every advantage you can get. That's The Way I See It.![]()
Are fender mirrors pointless?

There's no points on my fender mirrors so I guess they are pointless.

I use the right for changing lanes and with some of the buildings we deliver to it is good when getting around objects.
Cetane+ Thanks this. -
Do you have the regs. to cite, or was it just something a DOT cop was giving you crap about? Not arguing, just want to know, I am not too far from there.Last edited: Dec 2, 2013

Have to agree with mr beast. Not now or ever will there be micky mouse ears(fender mirrors) on the hood of my trk.. Scan your mirrors every few seconds and have spot mirrors adjusted properly. Not to mention after a few years the metal or fiberglass starts to crack from them flopping around from vibration. Didn't spend 135k on my last trk to have holes drilled in the fenders to look like crap in a few years. Sorry i take great pride in my ride and job.. Yes it's personal preference .

Ok thanks. It is talking about the weird mirrors that will show you your bumper, not the sides next to your steer tires. Is the ones that show in front of your grill the ones you all are talking about in this thread?

Scroll down to the "Cross Over Mirror" for info on them off their website
This is also the website where you can order the free NY truck route maps. It has a pdf on, but it is hard to see if you save it to a computer.
It is more hassel, but I can see where in congested cities it might be a good idea, esp when children can not be seen easily.Cetane+ Thanks this. -
Ok good info thanks. So I don't need them unless I am on the city streets. As long as I am on the freeways they aren't needed.

Or I believe the truck is registered in NY.
