If you need mirror's on your fender(s), then you need NOT to drive a hood. Stick to a COE, Even the short hood's. It is so embarrasing to drive a truck like that. It's just like having those "training stick's" on the corner's mounted on the bumber so you don't smash the fender's.
Are fender mirrors pointless?

I like them. I don't need them, but I do prefer to have them both there. I can glance down at a fender mirror to see what's around me without turning my head fully away from what's in front of me. Thus, I will notice faster if someone in front of me slams the brakes or cuts me off to make an exit or something along those lines. It's easy to miss something for a second when checking a side mirror, and a second can make a difference in reaction time. So I prefer all 6 mirrors to be there.

That is the cleavage mirror! Obviously yours is not set up correctly...
I like the fender mirrors. Sometimes you have to pull into a Y intersection. THey are good for looking back along a road that is too wide to see in the regular mirror.

I've read this post several times and have yet to determine exactly what point you are making. It seemed pretty clear until the last sentence. Could you please clarify your meaning.

The company will try to put the blame on anyone else.
It keeps their insurance and safety ratings lower.

I like the one on the right side...left side is worthless....I drove my first 12 years without them and never hit anything or anybody...Ive had them the past 11 years years ...I like one but I am sure I could live without if it was gone...but please dont take my power steering or A/C..drove years without that but now its a must...also dont take my 13 speed I learned on a two sticker but I dont think i could go back...I am now fat, lazy and spoiled...I had fun in the "good old days" but I prefer to stay here now..revin 2300 rpm in detroits was cool and the sound of a 290 with a straight pipe was also sweet but I have grown up now...i dont need that anymore....air ride,A/C and computer logs aint too bad nowadays...

I guess the reason I'm confused is that it SEEMS like you and dave26027 are saying that a company that outfits their equipment in a way to give the driver every possible advantage to avoid an accident that this is a bad thing???. It also seems to suggest that when a driver DOES get into an accident, it's not his/her fault and that it's unfair for a company to eliminate any shortcomings on the part of the equipment that a driver could use to put the blame for his/her incompetence onto the company. I'm assuming that this is NOT the intention of the post (at least I HOPE not) and this is why I asked for clarification.

IMO, this is the biggest benefit. I don't have the window at the bottom of my passenger door, so they come in handy.
-
that is my opinion, also. just move the eyes to see traffic. had them and liked 'em ,but don't have on this truck. I am constantly scanning mirrors and gauges, old habit. -
And now required in NYC. Not sure if USX camera's are gonna meet the new laws requirements.
Anything that can give you a view of your vehicle and surrounding area is beneficial. Can you get along without them? Sure, but why put yourself at a disadvantage.
