ding ding ding we have a winner. Sorry but it is quite painful listening to these arguments. No offense to anybody who has posted here. It's personal preference, I'll NEVER put a set on my rig, I have eyes, I have daylight doors, Yes I also have a blindspot on that right side that I cannot see, once a car is past that daylight door, there's one on the drivers side between the daylight door and the sleeper as well. I have driven a rented shaker daycab that had those #### things on it...most confusing fricken thing in my life. I hated them and I was glad to get back in my hood later on that day. It's a preference none the less, but I pay enough attention going down the road that I can't justify buying them. I also want people to think I'm a better driver than I actually am too hahahaha.RenegadeTrucker Thanks this.

Now that's funny. LMAO

I don't get it. So many people so against things that help be safer. one been told I shouldn't even have my high beams on cuz I shouldn't need them, now people against having a mirror looking into a blind spot...
It's not about us, it's about the crap load of people who have been run off the road our killed by these trucks, driven by both new and experienced drivers. these mirrors aren't too make our job easier, they're to make the road safer for everyone else on it.
I'm sorry your periods matters way too much, but next time a trick changes lakes on top of a car that was in its blind spot, I hope it wasn't your family that's in that carGearjammin' Penguin Thanks this. -
I like those fender mirrors and need them. I once had two fender mirrors on my passenger side... one pointing out and the other pointing to the front wheel and fender. And a door window and a mirror on top of the passenger side door. I liked them and used them all. I once drove a USXpress truck with no fender mirror. It had a camera on the fender instead and I hated it. It's a preference thing, depends on the truck and driver. Maybe one day I'll buy a big visor mirror to put on the passenger side. Not sure but it might help me with blind side alley dock so I wouldn't need to be adjusting that outside mirror while backing.

There are some future like models that are all cameras .... I did read were there trying to pass a law to have 2 on the front as to see everything with in 3' of the front bumper..

my freight shaker is the first truck iv had the fender mirror on and it confused me, i look in it, and it gave me another angle witch was nice. but it screwed me up backing it got broken off and i don't miss it.
now its just a spear on a tripod, when the hood is open, it will be getting completely removed vrs being replaced -
Well I guess I will put in my 2 cents worth. Now besides being so #### ugly, and messing with the airflow which affects the fuel mileage, they are a complete waste of money for those drivers who actually know how to drive. If you cant check your side mirror once in a while and see if someone is going to be in your blind spot based on speed and distance when you are going to move into a lane then you are a wheel turner and not a driver.

the issue isn't checking your other mirrors, its basic no neurology. your brain can only process so much information at a time, so it picks the most relevant, and immediately forgets the rest. This is why time moves faster when you're doing something, you focus on the activity, and forget the downtime.
You can test this yourself, write a bunch of questions about the traffic behind you on cards, and take a ride in someone's car. check the mirror like you would in your truck, our even just turn and look. then flip that card, see if you actually remember what color the sub is, how many cars there were, what the order of the cars are. sorry to tell you, but you're human like the rest of us.
That's why those mirrors had sick a need. In heavy traffic, with people citing you of, while you have to wretch for an exit... I don't care how long you've been driving, you can easily miss that car that moved into your blind spot.
You can check that mirror, but your brain not thinking that there 2 white suvs, not just 1, can mean someone's kid just died.
Leave the ego at home of you're driving these trucks. Mirrors like that aren't too protect your driving record, their to protect the car that might be next to you. Again. just remember that the next time a truck changes lanes on top of a car that he didn't see because our got into his blind spot, out van be your family that's in it
