HELL YES>
Get yourself a set of beach flip flops for shower.
The last one I took in a rest area in ohio involved a bleach solution 10% disinfecting of stall because of blood splash from addict shooting up illegal drugs. Then wear the flip flops into the shower etc.
Consider the truckstop the most infectious place.
Food. Always order welldone. If it aint cooked, send it back with a question asking what part of well done dont you understand Mr Cook.
]Get your water in bottle sealed. Break the seal yourself.
KAeopectate and immodium liquid (Actually immodium is bad idea, it contains a old retired Schedule 5 drug from the 70's that binds to your opiate receptors. Used by people in extreme amounts (Lopermide) to fight withdrawal symptoms when they are cut off from pain management.)
Disinfect your truck regularly. New matress. And so on.
Accept that Arizona contains arsenic and other compounds in the dirt itself. You may or may not have reactions to the local situation across the nation if you have not been exposed to it in your life time.
I was raised in Maryland, when I got into Oklahoma and west and south I needed some time to physically adapt. I eventually did and developed immunity etc. But I was sick often with fevers until then.
Good luck.
Are germs and diseases running rampant at truckstops ??

Hah, stuff I take for granted and figure everyone knows. Anytime you're in a shower used by a lot of people... touch the surfaces with your skin as little as possible. Buy shower shoes, you can grab the for a buck or two from Walmart. You will get athletes foot otherwise.
If you ever do get athletes foot. Way to cure it, piss on your feet when taking a shower.
Now combine all that... either a public shower floor is full of bacteria giving you athletes foot or piss.faux_maestro and motocross25 Thank this. -
I was so off balance I could barely stand.
Just make sure you wash your feet next to last, with lots of soap.
And only shower at the big chains like TA, Petro, Loves, J and Pilot. They usually do a pretty good job of cleaning the showers and I have never had a problem at them.
The only time I got foot fungus was after showering at one of our terminals. They are not cleaned after each use. Never again did I shower at a terminal, and never again have I had that problem.Canadianhauler21 and motocross25 Thank this. -
Let's see here, truckers dont bathe everyday, many live in dirty trucks, many dont wash their hands.acter using the bathroom whether its number one or two, I would say yes. Make sure you bathe as frequently as possible and also wash your hands with regularity. Greatly reduces chance for sickness. As for truck stop food, its hit or miss. Keep taking vitamins or consume foods that will build and shield your immune system, yogurt and apple sauce for starters

Such paranoid people here.
I basically take no precautions at all.
If I handle raw chicken I will wipe my hands with a couple wet wipes.
But all this stuff to try and ward off germs? Nope.
I believe that my own immune system should be able to handle most things, and I make it work for me without much help from anything I do.
The last time I was sick was about 5 years ago. A mild cold or flu that made me stop for 2 days.
On a lifetime average, I have been sick every 2-3 years. A cold, or flu now and then. A couple days of rest and it usually clears up.
And I think it is because I do not try to pamper my immune system. I make it learn and adapt.Cookiedeluxe, Rubber duck kw, Numb and 3 others Thank this. -

If your floor is a rubber mat, use scrubby bubbles on it with a stiff brush. That stuff is a great sanitizer. If they didn't give you a brand new mattress, go to Walmart and get a waterproof, hypoallergenic mattress cover. Not only will it protect you from whoever was in the truck before you, it will also protect you from yourself because it can be washed and it's really tough to get a mattress into a washing machine. If you have cloth seats, go to auto zone and get a cheap pleather cover.faux_maestro Thanks this. -
Seems to me that the more people get Schizo about germs, and morph into Germophobes.. the more apt tgey are to stay sick.
I wash my hands after each restroom visit, and I shower regularly, but I don't lather continuously with hand sanitizer like lots of people do.
Germs are GOOD for you .. to a degree.
If you wipe them all out with sanitizer all the time, your defenses are weakened and you're much more susceptible to the Creepin' Krud.
Put a dollar bill in your mouth 3 or 4 times per week.
Roll in the dirt.
It's good for ya.dunchues, stylez80Nine, Cookiedeluxe and 9 others Thank this. -
You just started exposing yourself to lots of new germs that's all. Your body will adapt to that.

I don't take any special precautions. Love buffets. Haven't gotten sick.
