basically, if you're a local driver, are you subject to all the federal DOT policies or just the states DOT?

In most cases the state's either default to Federal DOT standards or have more stringent ones. But, yes, us local drivers are still subjected to DOT standards, whether it be state, federal or both.

I just remembered not being required to have a drug test when I made deliveries in a box truck, but it was non cdl. made me wonder if its a totally different policy by the state or just because it wasn't cdl.

Texas gives you an extra hour to work. 15 instead of 14.

Only if your considered an instrastate carrier. If your company rolls out of state, you have to adhere to the 14,11,70 30 every 8 rules.

It's because the box truck didn't require a CDL to drive.

Can confirm. I'm running a local gig in a 26' flatbed, GVW of 26,000. No drug test and only need to run logs on runs over 100/150 miles.

It should be mandatory if your job requires driving whether a cdl or not drivers should take a drug test.Last company I drove for which was a construction company driving side dump, they broke a major law by not giving me a pre employment drug test.I even asked them if im going to get a drug test, boss says yes. That never happened he issued me a trk and then follow another driver that day.Bet they do that with all the new hires.Only reason I stayed because I had bills to pay.Not there anymore though.Got tired of driving for a law braking company.
