The new Paccar is smooth. Once you let off the brake it’s wanting to roll, almost like a car. You don’t have to give it any pedal to get it to move. And in the lower gears, up to 5th or 6th I believe, you can creep at an idle with no throttle input. I don’t have any experience with other transmissions, but I’ve been pretty happy with the new Paccar. I have about 42k miles on mine now.

Trucking would be in a far better place if these new guys had to drive the ratty, bottom of the barrel trucks we had to drive when we started. Plopping these new guys in fairly new trucks right off the bat isn't doing them any favors. They'd dang sure know the trucks better!

I started diving April 1997. I took delivery of my new truck right around Christmas last year and currently have about 42k miles on my first automated transmission. I can say that I have zero desire to ever have a manual transmission again. Does that make me less of a man? Can’t say as I really care because other’s opinions of me on the internet have zero affect on my life. And the people in my life that matter don’t care that I ordered an automated transmission.

you know, us OLD SCHOOLERs here, have all the Knowledge in Trucking, and these kids come on here and call us Supertruckers, Old Timers, and some other names. Well, we are Old School, no doubt. What is going to happen, is there going to need some info. in reguards to driving a truck, or anything that pertains to trucking, and not one of us is going to step up. you kids best shape up with your attitudes,or figure it out later. this kind of attitude is getting OLD.

I do tons of NYC I love the auto. But during the snow times I do sometimes wish I still had a manual. Another thing I dislike about that auto is the tendency to shift mid turn which causes it to backtrack to the gear it came out of and I really hate how it’s always trying to put it in the lowest gear possible when using the jakes.

YES! There's a few members who have talked about Detroit's downhill mode as if it's some magic sauce that let's a truck go down a hill faster. Like they have zero clue wth is happening under the hood. All the downhill mode does is what an experienced driver does going down a grade.

Because it was a Volvo. Their autos are better than any auto out there and it’s not even close.
