My wife is totally manual, but she won't skip gears.

I don't get it. I hardly ever get wife jokes. It's like I need a wife to understand them.

yes automatics will replace the stick. I hated the auto until I was stuck in traffic. Also my right arm was sore from other things. the newbies will love the automatics.

Was just pointing out most (probably all) of them now can/do skip shift and can start in higher gears.

I drive one, It IS a company Truck.
Not a BIG FAN of it and probably wouldn't buy an Auto myself.
But the company offered me a brand new truck...And well I took it. :D

So long as there continues to be drivers that want to drive them, they will continue to exist.

Just like with passenger cars. Most don't offer the option anymore, but some still do.

I would give up driving truck before I give up the stick.

Mountains with a auto... Ive said before that when we ran em in our auto, always manual. NEVER allowing the computer to upshift on a downgrade. We did try it one time and truck kept going against the governer in high jake then shift up and continue to gain speed until it ran out of transmission gears and overran our max speed governer on Town Hill. Had some explaining to do. It was simply not worth it leaving the auto,... in auto urg.

Manual with the auto meant putting it on M and then using the paddle to do the shifting up or down manually. WIthout touching the clutch sometimes.

We ran all the mountains we could find, but avoided some truly monsterous grades here and there.

Makes me consider a future in which robots drive trucks on pathways completely closed to cars. What then?
