We were told you could get away with it by not saying unless of course your working for a place like Mavrick who only uses auto. Also they will no when you can't shift their truck. I know most trainers actually look for you to double clutch while in training. During my time at school I drove much better without the clutch. But to pass the test you must double clutch.

They might give someone a break on the road test if they know he has come out of an automated transmission truck. It isn't that easy to forget not having a clutch pedal, but it does come back to you if you drove a manual for any length of time.

A guy I know, very experienced, doesn't want to go back to a manual because he really does not shift well at all anymore, but to get a new truck, I think I would relearn. He lost another load because the truck, though not the transmission this time, was down again.

Now this is an interesting transmission. I drove an international with a 6 speed allison for a couple of months. it was an awesome tranny. Was hooked to a 330 cummins pulling a dump bucket. That particular trans wont take the torque of a big motor but this one you are talking about might

Road test are used to see if you are a safe driver not to see if you can shift gears and once you have a license I'm not aware of anybody that cares if you use the clutch to shift or not. This comes from someone who has given many road test

I have a friend from school who is with Werner, this person was told to use the clutch. I start with Roehl Monday so Ill see what the trainer has to say.

because you can't pass the test, if you can't drive the truck??

just hope it's not me giving the road test.lol

don't think the manual will ever be fully replaced.

never had a clutch heat up bad enough to make it stutter like you guys have.

I agree they will never fully go away. Even though I own one there are some applications I would not trust it with. Not because of the tranny itself but because of the clutch it uses.

I would hate to have to test for either of them then. While I can easily switch back and forth from auto to manual double clutching would requir practice on my part. The first road test I took afterr school the tester actually told me I didn't have to use it if I didn't want to.

    You're saying you can't skip-shift with a manual? Interesting.
