Are MaxxForce engines THAT bad? There is a $20k difference between the MF13 & ISX

Short answer.... YES, THEY ARE THAT BAD. I have a good friend with a MF and he's had EGR issues and lots of coolant problems. He's constantly breaking coolant lines due to poor design.

I've heard of Prostar being sold at the Richie Bros. Auction for under $12,000.

I'm curious to know if you can scrape the MF motor and put in an ISX and change the writing harness.

Seems to me the difference in price answers your question.

I haven't measured anything, but I believe the ISX is rather larger than the MF13. Might be a tight squeeze against the firewall. Though, all the awful plumbing strapped onto the MF13 may make it a negligible difference.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of stuffing engines in vehicles that were never intended to have said engine. If I had disposable income and a shop, I think a fun exercise would be to stuff a 6NZ into a Prostar.

Hey first time I've posted on here. Just curious how many hours you figure it would take to remove and replace head on a 2012 Prostar with a Maxxforce 15. As you all know there is a pile of "stuff" hanging off that engine. Also to remove the head you need to take the interior apart to get at the rear of the engine. Thanks

Are you doing this yourself or wondering how long a shop will take?

Like with everything in trucking, you usually get what you pay for.

Cheaper definitely doesn't mean better when it comes to motors.

    I had a 2012 prostar eagle that I loved , roomy , quite, etc .
Was on a dedicated run from Montana to California and back and the maxforce 430 in it just about lived at McCandless intl in Vegas for the usaul maxxfarse headaches .
It was also underpowered ...kinda reminded me of a 671 Detroit minus the noise and smoke lol.
Not long ago a friend bought a 13 prostar in Omaha ...ex hill bros truck with 320k on the clock and gave 15k for it .

Has anyone tried the m1m replacement egr cooler? Failing that and I know it's frowned upon within this forum, if the EGR and DPF mysteriously fell off in the middle of the night, would the majority of the maxxforce issues fall away at the same time, as outside of those two the only other issue I've heard is the fuel pump taking a dump every once in a while.
