Er...I was referring to farm trucks in my post. If (more like when) the brakes didn't work, it's because 1. They hadn't been fixed yet (for years at a stretch) or 2. Grandpa or my uncle had "fixed" them instead of paying a mechanic. We used to call them "farmer brakes" because...just like the crops... maybe they'd work better next year.
Same with the lights. I actually went through one harvest with a flashlight taped to the hood because we were behind and there was no time to fix anything.
Are Rookies taught how to use a clutch brake anymore?

only thing i could think of is if he was saying something like downshifting a few gears and then when you are at a lower speed just use your brakes to complete the stop. I dont always downshift every gear but at times when Im just puttin around the city I will slow myself down so that I crawl up to the light or traffic but I never actually stop. when Im in traffic Im not the one that takes off with all the other cars and then stops on their bumper. I crawl through and keep my space, sure people try to make your distance smaller by getting in front so I just hang back a little. It doesnt always work but Id rather creep through rush hour and then when it opens get up and go then play the stop and go game with these idiots going to the office.otherhalftw and THBatMan8 Thank this. -

We were taught about it in England's school..... Didn't hear much about it from the phase one trainer, tho.... Maybe its cause we showed right away why it was there and how to properly use it.
What, you surprised to hear that?? -
All I know is that any time I've either been assigned a used truck or have had to use a loaner, the clutch brake never works. I'm not anywhere near perfect, but I understand the clutch brake and it just grates on me when I hear a driver having to slam it into gear (for whatever reason, I might add....).
