Thanks to everyone for all your replies, I've enjoyed reading all of them! I think I'm done with small companies after this. I'm currently looking into a medium sized company that operates near where I live. They have much better benefits, equipment, qualcomm and overall more to offer. I'm tired of being overworked and underpaid for the "EXTRA" work I do when practically everyday is an 18 - 20 hour day. I don't mind working hard but a 14 hour day will suffice. I'm also tired of breaking down and them not wanting to fix it. If anyone knows anything about TCSI/TRANSLAND out of Strafford, MO please let me know.
Thanks and Take er easy!

Another thing....the company I'm with wants to charge their drivers over $1000/month for major medical...I could get a private health insurance plan on my family for that and that price is with them paying 50% of the premiums on me! I told them to forget that!

Insurance costs are out the roof. It is ridiculous the premiums some companies are charging.

groundpounder Thanks this.

To me the smaller companies have both good and bad and as with trucking its all in what you make of now in my case the bad out weighed the good first no communication, you break down after 5 or on the weekend thats it drivers who just drop trailers without saying anything then u pick it up and after the pre trip u find out its no good. May 18 was my last day and im happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stay safe drivers

Yep, we don't have to worry about insurance any more.groundpounder Thanks this. -
I really think it is hit or miss just like the larger companies. Some are good and some are bad. If you ask me if they have more than one truck they are a bunch of dirty buggers. It all just depends what kind of dirt you can put up with.

I worked for a medium sized carrier 360 power units and they would give me loads and they knew I didn't have the hours to run them but still dispatched me on them. I worked for a small company 30 power units and they knew I didn't have the hours at the end of the week to work a 6th day but still tried to dispatch. Like I said it is all hit or miss. Both of said companys good people, they just put the customer needs above the drivers. Can't say I blame them though. If the company can't get the job done the customer will find some one who will.

There are Some niches in this industry where drivers run illegal because they have to, they don't have much of a choice, it's not for more money or to look cool.. If you don't beleive that then you are naive and fooling yourself...Logan76 Thanks this. -
I'm sure hoping small companies are better!!! Getting ready to leave a 2nd rate, training, mega-carrier, and really hoping I'm doing the right thing. If it turns out to be a mistake....well, put up with this company almost 3 years and am sure I can do at least a year, no matter where I go.
