    I guess that you did not really read her post. Her husband is a L/O. Rug, someone could show you a settlement statement and you would still call it bull. As far as completing their contracts, just look how many L/O are out here in 06-10 trucks. I think that they completed their lease. I found this one from last year when my student and I where running dedicated Costco out of Morris. Total miles for this week was just about 4050, and that was 5.5 days.

    Yeah I did read it. I see he is a L/O. So for lots of headaches and worrying about making the lease payment you can get the same money and not have all the extra BS? It's a no brainer.

    Fact: Swift pays you less per mile when you are training. Does it cost less to roll that lease wagon when you are training?

    What the percentage of successful L/O's at Swift VS the L/O's that don't make it? Is it over 50%? 60%? Answer me that Batman.

    Will you deny that Swift builds these newbies up with visions of grandeur and most fall flat on their face? Many are still wet behind their ears from tracking schools. They don't know XXXX from shinola about the biz. They prey on them. When I was there 6 months of experience or maybe even less they would let you sign on the dotted line.

    I could care less what the success rate is for other Swift O/Os ... 80% of the people in any profession are less than competent.

    But, that's all OK ... some people aren't cut out to run their own business. Some don't find out until they try. For you, it's good you know your limitations. But not everyone suffers from the same limitations you do.

    Me ... I cleared over 52K last year ... Solo. I took more time off than a company driver would earn. I took it off when I wanted to. I took it off for as long as I wanted to. My truck is set up the way I want it. My truck is maintained the way I want it, where I want it. I take the loads I want. I run the routes the way I want to ... and I will pay less taxes than a company driver.

    And one more thing ... I completed one lease and am now purchasing a truck. When that truck is paid off in 17 months, I'll be clearing about $85k. And before you say, what about maintenance? My numbers don't include the money I set aside for maintenance. It's covered.

    If I wanted to go OTR and buy my own truck I would. Not what I want to do. I like sleeping in my house. OTR was fun. Not what I wanted to do. It was a means to an end. Just a stepping stone. That's why I never switched companies until I got a local job. I did 15 months at Swift.

    I am still waiting to here about those "Mystic" fuel stops that give YOU discounts. Yep, I haven't forgotten you never answered that question.

    Average EIA price for fuel last year was $3.92 ... My average cost was $3.72 ... Guess I found cheap fuel somewhere.

    That isn't cheap fuel.


    So the average NATIONWIDE price is your basis? You didn't necessarily run where the price was that high. Or never bought fuel there.

    Never got $.35 or more off the PUMP price correct? Never got cost+ pricing either? Not like a LandStar BCO does? Swift takes the discount. They love it!

    I run out of California and mostly in the NE ... TA Ontario $4.19/ Royal in Redlands $3.87 ... Flying J Ripon $4.03/$ United Chowchilla $3.81 ... TA Harrisburg PA $4.53/ Wilco Hess $4.02.

    And yeah I also buy in cheap states ... You know the ones where cost plus doesn't give you the big discount ... Pilot Clinton SC $3.75/ Shell Enoree $3.47 ... TA Meridian MS $3.72/ Spaceway Meridian $3.52

    And you better be tracking your fuel cost against the national average ... that's what the FSC is based on. Doesn't matter how much you get off an inflated pump price. If you are paying more than the national average you're losing money on the FSC and every time the price goes up you are losing more. Beat the national average and every time the price goes up, you put more money in your pocket. So yeah, minimizing you purchases in high priced states is very profitable fuel strategy.

    And Swift only gets the discount off the majors, nothing where I buy my fuel.

    But we've gone over this before and you keep going around in the same circle ... So I'm putting back on ignore.

    In the winter months, is it more about fuel cost or fuel quality?

    Some of the places have better 'winterized' fuel, from what I have heard.
    And it costs more.

    You CANNOT make the money I do as a company driver AND take the amount of time off I do. I netted over $46K through the end of October 2013 so I took a bunch of time off in Nov & Dec. Still neeted over $50K for the year.

    As a company driver did not do to bad. Gross was 54k and I took a total of 58 days off.
