Hi and G'day mate i have a bit of experience with H2b visa application as i went over to the USA in 2005 to drive Over the road most companies want at least 2 years experience in line haul before they'll consider you and not more than 2 traffic tickets in the last 3 years as it effects their insurance. If your looking at getting in with some of the oil transport companies the down side is that its is very hard to get Hazmat (Dangerous Goods) endorsement Also with the huge downturn in the USA economy the authorities are a bit reluctant to issue these temporary work visas. There was a push to get the visa upgraded to H1 seeing how many feel it is a skilled job. However until congress sees otherwise it looks like the poor old truck driver is forced to get unskilled worker status visa H2b. Before a company can hire overseas workers they must prove to the Dept of Labour that they can not recuit enough US workers if this is proven then the Dept of Labour will petition the DHS for visa issuance on behalf of that company. Keep in mind to if you do get a visa you can only work for that company issued with the visa it is illegal to go work for another company you can however get a transfer to another company if it has also been approved for H2b visas this happened to us back in 2006 a few workers who were with Calark visa's had expired and were able to successfully apply to work at our company in Utah.
