What's this 'bright-eyed' nonsense you speak of?

Drivers who are new hires and not run the miles each week. They hang around the drivers room telling lunch counter stories and wait on dispatch to give them 800 mile loads due in 4 days.

That is the nonsense you should be pretty familiar with already if you have any time at all in this industry.

Never did tell any stories...I knew most of them were BS or very heavily embellished and I didn't want to be "one of those drivers". To this day, I still don't hang around a bunch of #### talkers. I'll read a book or work on the truck.

I think a minimum guarantee is going to become SOP very soon as many companies are already doing it.

Did you talk to current drivers before you started? There is no better guide of real-life experience at ABC Trucking that what current ABC drivers are getting.

Of course there are. My company is ran 100% legal and honest. By the book from regulations to taxes and everything in between. I agree though there are a lot of shady people out there.

Look for a company that offers a weekly minimum guarantee. My guys start at $1300 before they even leave the yard.

Good luck! Maybe look for a smaller company with around 10 to 25 trucks.

I started doing this in 2013 before I ever heard of anyone doing it. Until fairly recently I almost felt like it hurt me in finding drivers because they didn’t believe it and therefore thought we were just another lying company. Seems like lately people are getting a little more accustomed to it but still get a lot of “is this for real?”. I agree though a lot more companies seem to be catching on but I think it’s pretty hard for big companies to do it because it takes much more responsibility in the office to make sure each truck is grossing enough. Also, you can’t have slouches working for you. If they are not self starters then it back fires and you gotta get rid of them quick.

After everything you've said here, I'm stuck wondering how you figure $62,000 is good money?

I mean its not too terribly bad considering being a company driver who doesn't have to worry about maintenance, PM's, truck payments, booking loads, etc...

Everyone seems to be making big money when comparing pay. Then everyone says they don't like trucking because they don't make any money. How much do you make ? 60,000+ is getting up in pay. Walmart pay more. I did car hauling that paid better. So what you making
