Thanks to everyone that posted useful information on here. I have decided to go with Roehl. I am currently studying for my cdl permit test. A lot of stuff to remember, anyone have any suggestions on the most important parts to study for the permit test?

You can use this to help you study your permit test...

Only thing I can tell you is to take your time when you take the test. Also another information and this is up too you. Ask to take the audio version. This means you will have a headset on so you can hear the questions. That's how I took my test and past with no problems. It kinda blocks out the background noise.
Good luck!!! -
Just remember in your career to use common sense as it is lacking in a lot ways out here. Never be afraid to ask an old hand questions about anything as the only bad question is the one you didnt ask. If you are backing in somewhere dont be afraid to ask for a guide. I have been on the road for 23 yrs and trust me there are days that I cant park a car let alone the truck we all have them that just how it is. Take your time dont waste time but dont rush a job and do it wrong always do it right and your career will be a success. If you do all this you will get the reputation that you are the one to call if you want the truth and the job done right. I will say that there are many many ups and downs in this business so dont let it discourage you. if you do get discouraged find an old hand to talk to and get it of your chest some of us are still out here and have no problem helping newbies, remember we were newbies once also. Always remember to treat other drivers the way you want to be treated. Well good luck with your trucking career and fell free to shoot me questions or to just get something of your chest. Talk to you later

wannagotrucking,
Yes there are some very good companies out there. Quite a few in fact. I wish I could give you a magic company to go to but I can't. What works for some will not work for others.
I have never worked for an OTR company. I started out working for a rendering company. Picking up grease and bones. Yuck....I know. But it was a good starting point. It took 5 companies before I found what I consider to be a great company to work for. Make no mistake though, as good as they are, they are really only interested in their bottom line. Just like any other company. The exception is that they have provided me with a means to earn a good living and provide for my family. It's not a job for me but a career. That's what you to find. A career, not just a job. You will know it when you find it.
I know you need a place to start. In my opinion, the reason that there seems to be so many bad post is because, well, there are a heck of a lot of bad companies out there. Sadly, this forum is loaded with them. But that is a good thing for everyone. Yet so many will not heed the warnings of others. And those companies will NEVER change. They have no reason to. There are way too many drivers willing to fill those empty seats. But you need start somewhere.
I think you should do your time, get your experience and get out. Find a company that will pay you for all of your on duty time. It's only fair to you and your family.
Again, i'm not sure how to find a good company but I know how to find a bad company. In my opinion, the easiest way to spot a bad company is to look in any truckstop employment magazine. They advertise for a reason and none of them are good for the driver. The good companies don't advertise. Obviously, they don't have to and for a good reason.
You are going to see a lot of companies in your travels. Word of mouth is going to be your best bet in finding that good company. Being in the right place at the right time will help if your lucky.
It will happen for you. It did for for me and it has done so for many others.
Good luck.

Western has nice equipment, but they pay ####. Another bottom feeder. -
I'm pretty sure it's just me. But I personally have a gripe or three with Pam.
I DID get four new batteries whaen I finally got to a company shop that would TEST them.
My Opti-Idle is not quite reliable. Better since they bypassd the hood switch but still not 100%.
And they waste a heck of a lot of my time. Couple hours to a couple days to get a dispatch.
Months ago long time drivers told me it will get better after a year.
Recently an 8, a 5 and 4 year driver said things have never been this bad.
However the local company I was thinking about going to doesn't sound as good as it did.
So I'm gonna stay on at least a few months as long as I get either a truck that will idle and/or has an APU and a couple extra cents a mile....
