Are there any specific companies that will hire me?

    Hello All,

I am looking to start working as a OTR driver. However, back in 1998 I had a misdemeanor marijuana charge that of course is still on my record. I plead guilty to the charge as I did indeed do the crime. And my state doesn't allow expungement of an MVR for any reason at all.

What I'm wondering is are there any companies that will hire me as an inexperienced driver with this charge? I have applied to two companies so far and both of them said they have a no drug charge policy, which I do completely understand. But are there any out there that will accept a 14 year old charge? I have a completely clean record other than that.

    Thank you for your time,
    God Bless

Hmm well it's a misdemeanor and I know mega carriers even take felonies, did you try them, try central refigerated, if not your answer is only a phone call away, good luck!

14 years old won't hurt you, especially since its just a misdemeanor.

I guess the only way to find out is call the companies that you're interested in.Also look at their qualifications. That was back in 98 but when it comes to trucking so many things are unforgiving.

    Thanks for the info guys.

Well, I've sent in a few applications, 14 in total so far.

I did get a positive feed back from Roehl. The recruiter I spoke with said they don't mind the charge as long as I can pass a drug test, which won't be an issue at all. And believe me, I am VERY appreciative of the chance. :biggrin_25514:

I also have to admit I didn't feel like the recruiter was blowing sunshine up my rear end. She was very honest about both the good and bad things you will see as a driver! As long as people are honest with me then I have no trouble rolling with whatever comes up.

Again, thank you all for the input! I really hope to make this happen as I'm very burned out on the current, 9-5 sitting behind a desk, job.

you are going to get sunshine where the sun dont shine whenever you talk to a recruiter - one smart idea if you have the time is to do a mail campaign and just write maybe a hundred letters to personnel in companies to just ask them as it would be lower-cost and for my 2-cents even though I am anti-chem any-kind anyone who has stayed no-arrest for that length of time should be considered as an applicant

    A few things really.

*You won't always get the miles you want each week.
*Break downs happen and it can take a few days to get it fixed.
*Customers can be a pain in the rear. Bad directions. Not loading/unloading when they say. Different employees telling you different things. Etc, etc. But that's just how it is really.
*That extra pay ( tarping, detention, etc ) might not always be on the next paycheck. And you might have to take it up with payroll to "remind" them.
*You won't always get home when you want. Might be a couple of days early, or late, depending on freight.

I think it made a difference that I explained up front that I come from a trucking family ( Grandfather, Father, Uncle, Brother ). And that I am looking for an honest assessment of the company.

To be fair I know these are the kind of bad things that you will encounter with every company. I was just "kinda" impressed that I didn't get a load of BS about Roehl not being like that. Which is what I expected them to say.
