I have started with Prime, and am brand new to the industry. Let's say I love the job and want to stay out on the road. Are there better otr carriers out there or do the big companies have a monopoly on the otr business? Being local or home time is not an issue. Thanks for your input!

There are better OTR jobs even without going to a starter company. A lot of the drivers here will tell you that you need one year at a company before moving on to better. Thats BS. There are good companies that will hire newbs. You have to really search for those jobs though. They wont be advertising. I you can sell yourself your chances of landing a good are even better. Is it bad to stay at a starter company for a year? No, definitely not but it is also not necessary. Is job hopping frowned upon? Probably for some companies but if you're working at a company you're not happy with what is it going to hurt to search for a better job? So what if you've been with your first company for 2 months and you find a better company to take you. Take the job.

I TRULY and GENUINELY hope that the mega starter trucking companies do NOT take over all the smaller OTR companies and end up MONOPOLIZING the OTR end of the trucking industry. If this should happen, it could put a lot of OTR truck drivers into a complete "tailspin".

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I'd rather not say specifically, but I'm out west.

It sounds like there are plenty of otr options besides the big guys. I assume they might pay better?

Then look for a better job in the west since you'd rather not say specifically you think something is gonna happen to you.

Then I'd rather not give you any specific advice. Look for companies that use trucks to move goods to and from places.

I think he is trying to protect himself from the prime police. FYI Prime has inflated the numbers so that when you look for other jobs you will seem like you are taking a pay cut, but will probably be able to stay busy and make more money at the lower cpm. Don't drink the Prime Kool-aid.
