Hello everybody. I don't drive a truck yet, but have been looking into it. Been reading truck forms and gleaning what information I can. I thought I would go into a few truck stops and talk to some drivers. I find most drivers are very friendly, and were very helpful. I have noticed that most drivers are very huge. As someone in my early 50's I do workout ( body exercises ) everyday. My question is, are there places for drivers to exercise? Are there drivers who do workout? To me, 20 to 30 minutes a day of body exercise would work wonders for a driver. I would be interested in hearing from some of you. Do you exercise?

A few do, most REALLY need to but don't. If that is really important to you, you will find a way. There are a very tiny handful of truckstops that are talking about adding 'workout facilities' in the future but these will be so far and few between as to generally not be counted on. You'll have to figure on a jogging routine and perhaps a few other calisthenics that you can manage, or perhaps jump rope. Most of the overweight issues among drivers are as much to do with poor eating habits and options, as lack of exercise.

i am just a passenger with hubby, but i will get out and walk in the morming before he gets up. we will both walk on our dinner break too. then we also dont park in the front row, so that when we do get out to go in for anything, we have to do some walking.

Sit ups in the bunk, knee bends between or behind the seats, leg stretches using the steps, pushups at a 45 degree angle upside the trailer, and a few laps around the lot.

Seriously- in the 80's I really did exercise. I was a Reservist and tried to stay in shape. At the end of the day a two mile run was the way to unwind. Pushups, situps and jumping jacks in the parking lot between the trucks. Back then working out in truckstops was something to ridicule. And I took a lot of ridicule, too. Even drivers harassing me on loudspeakers from their trucks- I could hear the CB light up with laughter and jokes when I ran past trucks with open windows. Guffaws and stupid insults from other drivers. Comments like "You're gonna blow out those knees like I did!" (usually coming from a HUGE person)- or "You're gonna cause a heart attack there!"
Or "It ain't gonna do you any good- you're gonna die running!"
Eventually the demands of this career took all my time and I quit working out on the road. Today we're forced to take time off and rest but I haven't worked out or exercised since the early 90's. A workout today is washing laundry on days off, unloading the occasional "Driver Unload", dollying trailers with heavy loads, or doing repairs and light maintenance under the truck.... -
Wished I would have kept it up...
