do not ask your dispatcher or whatever other job description they go by...

go directly to the shop, with a DD box o'joe....

    you'll get whatever you want......

even the gal in the Snap-On tool calendar......she's waiting for you right now.....

With all due respect, I am not going to waste a cup of coffee or some donuts trying to bribe a mechanic to give me what I should have had already. I have taken an entire box of a dozen donuts into a shop before, just to say thank you to them.. I have seen bedbug infestations of tractors before. Once those critters get into a mattress you have to get rid of it. These things are bad enough as it is in a hotel. You move into a tractor with these things in it they will get into your stuff. I have seen where they have made nests in the backs of TVs and coolers. When you get a "new" used tractor make sure there is a new mattress in it. Make sure it is still in plastic. Then carefully examine the area around and under the bunk. Bedbugs will burrow in wood. Trust me, get those dang things in your belongings it will almost take an act of God to get rid of them!

I've had trucks assigned to me with used mattresses that were still wrapped in plastic. I took plastic off and used the mattress. I've had trucks with old mattresses that looked like they belonged to a Homeless guy living under a bridge. New mattress or new driver.

When my truck was in the shop and I had to borrow another drivers truck while he was on vacation the company put me in a hotel. Told them I wasn't gonna sleep in his bed at home or in the truck. My truck got fixed pretty quick too.

I can understand if they gave him a raggedy used mattress with piss stains. But if he wants a premium memory foam mattress that’s on him.

    with all due respect......

i took care of the people that took/take care of me...

i have had a few things taken care of, ahead of others in line, all so that i could get home earlier and have a longer weekend.

it's called "looking out for #1".....

    is it a bribe..??

maybe yes, maybe it's just gratitude........

i know what worked for me.....

    coffee and donuts are cheap..........

mechanics (which i was one, in my younger years before i turned to trucking), will eat nearly anything, that is free.

even day old donuts........or nearly expired packages of oreo's......

When I was active my last job was with a small carrier. I hauled a lot of Candy (Mars &Hershey) and at least 3 times a month I had at least one case of some product that was rejected. I ate some of it, but honestly, I took most of it back to my terminal. Gave a lot of it to the ladies in HR and Payroll. I always also took care of the shop and the guy that worked on our reefers. My point was I am not going to do extra just to get a shop critter to help me. The reason is I am not going to be sneaking around like I am doing something wrong. I am only going to ask for a mattress one time. If I don't get it, I'm renting a car and I'm gone! I refuse to play that game.

A bribe is paid in advance.
    Gratitude is paid afterword.

I will never pay a bribe to a co-employee (Notice I don't claim them as co-workers. They would have to work.) I have however, as soon as Monday a few days ago, taken in treats for everyone.

If I was you, I would say ## then and find a new driver. It’s like using a toilet that can’t be cleaned or sex with a hooker with no condom. You don’t know what you are getting into or the history of it. You might get an itch the next morning that won’t stop. Then see a bunch of hopping little critters. Gross.

Absopositively all this. Shop is low on mechanics because of the holiday right now and for some reason my governed 65 mph truck won't go above 62 mph. Screw that! Two boxes of fresh donuts to the rescue.
