Are they suppose to give new mattress for your truck?

Not meaning to further morph this thread. However, I am fascinated by this topic of how drivers take care of company people. I also find it interesting how people define what constitutes taking care. Would you take a donut into payroll if a mistake was found on your pay? Or would you take donuts into HR if you need to get something done? I don't share this opinion about what is, in essence, giving a shop critter a treat to help you. First, off I should remind that it is the shop supervisor that runs the shop. The shop boss at my last job loved these things -----

I remember taking 5 or 6 of those shelve boxes from a case into the shop. Same with other candy. The boss over in HR/Payroll loved mints. Same with her. No reason, I would just take em in set the candy down say hello and walk out. Funny thing I could walk into the shop or the office most anytime and get "the bosses" to do things for me. My point is I took care of everybody when I did not need anything, so when I did, well I had the karma points saved up.

Edited to add: It is amazing how quickly your paperwork can move to the top in places like a Walmart DC traffic office when the clerks know you to have been generous! I had 4 cases of cookies rejected by a warehouse and Hershey gave them to me. Later I did not have room for them and gave the girls in the Traffic office each a case. And later gave the dock boss the other 2. Funny how quick I got out of there.

My first truck my company tried to give me was a dirty dirty dirty Freightliner/farm truck

I went in and let it be known I would drive it on daily runs but I would not sleep in it. And they would have to buy me a new wardrobe everyday because I would have to burn my clothes

Thanks everyone for the responses. I am switching to another truck and will make sure to inspect thoroughly for bed bugs and also demand a new mattress. But mattress is now least of my worries. Schneiders equipment is ####. I am in BULK and the Freightshaker they gave me shakes so much both the RPM indicator and speedo broke off and fell into the dash. Their trailers are mostly garbage. I am only hesitant to quit them because of the retention bonus. I have pulled my back muscle while driving and am having serious neck pain currently. Schneider might have ended my driving career early on. I dont have health insurance and they dont offer theirs until 90 days. I am not sure if I can claim work injury or not. Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Not at all. I gave candy when I had it. I passed it around. Not expecting anything in return. Just doing what I was taught to do, share. I did not give candy out expecting stuff in return. However I admit I did get stuff. This was my point. My comment was how people looked at taking care. Not saying it was wrong. What I said was wrong was wasting coffee and donuts sneaking around trying to get what the #### carrier should have ALREADY gave you.

For the record. I have given Candy to DOT officers, State Troopers and Security Guards. I would be lying if I said I have not taken stuff into a shop. One of my jobs a few years ago the man that worked on our Reefers and APUs at Atlanta loved Cappuccino. If I was in that place I always got him one. I did take care of the people that from time to time I knew would take care of me. So please understand it is not the concept of taking care. It is the concept of doing stuff like this to try to get things you should have that bothers me. There is NOT one thing hypocritical with this either.

it's still the same darned thing, stop trying to make it sound differently.

re-read what i bolded and underlined........

getting that guy a cappuccino so then later he gets to your reefer before someone else perhaps??

giving candy to a DOT officer so he would let you go without batting an eye..??

c'mon man....it's the same darned thing as what i'd do, buying coffee for the shop, which by the way, the shop manager got in on that as well.....

Do you have selective comprehension or are you just in a pissy mood? I'm not saying giving things are wrong. Only an idiot would try to say this. IM NOT AN IDIOT! The point, if you needed a permit would you go buy a box of donuts and coffee and take them into the permit office? I would hope not! My Point is things like permits and things like mattresses etc are things a driver are entitled to! In case of things like this, if you are needing to take things like this into the shop to get a mattress something in that shop is bad wrong! I am the son of a truck driver. I learned a long time ago that as a driver you should always look at being nice to those guys. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with doing it! Oh, course I have had favors done for me in return. Again only an idiot would say otherwise. One more point. If I were trying to stand on such a point I would never have bought up the candy. Now I am done with this stupid topic. I have also made my point! I'm not going to do it anymore!

To sum it up. In this business, drivers have to put up with indignities too much as it is. This is why I will always get my dander up when someone feels like they need to treat somebody when you as a driver need something like a new mattress etc. It's wrong. You take care of these people because they take care of you 365 days a year. Not because you need a critical thing.
