I keep hearing about all these appalling working conditions and wonder what happened to the teamsters unions?
Do they no longer exist?
Are truckers no longer in unions?

They still exist, just not as many of them. Seems the majority of the younger generations do not care to participate in organized labor.
-
They're still around..... more common in ltl and tank haul. As far as I know, there are not many (if any) organized long haul outfits.

You couldn't get two truck drivers to agree on the price of a "free" cup of coffee so how would you ever get them together to collectively do something positive for themselves.

I wonder what the turnover rate at Schnieders, union division is compared to their non union division.

Unions? I actually like working my a55 off.
A good 80% of union guys I know only do as much as they have to , they never go above and beyond. -

my opinion is that union membership hasnt grown as much as it should have because of the unions and how they operate, in alot of workplaces a union would be a huge negative, the company would end up going bankrupt, and everyone that WAS employed would be looking for work..Last edited: Feb 11, 2012

They would much rather work under long hours and low pay rather than belong to a union. it's beyond me why drivers wouldn't want higher pay, insurance and retirement in the form of a pension. I know some folks will come up with 20 reasons why it's a bad idea to belong to one but I'm sure those guys are the same folks who drive for .30 or .40 a mi and feel they have it good.
