If those union jobs were so great why aren't you there now ? Everybody knows where the union trucker jobs are - UPS , ABF , YRC , Waste Management , or just drive around and look for drivers walking a picket line .

Unions have FAR outlived their original purpose.

People are no longer being sent into the coal mine without a flashlight and water.

Coal mines still have a lot of safety violations so those unions aren't protecting the workers .

Good grief, it was just an analogy, ok I'll be more literal: Unions exist today for the sole purpose of higher pay with more days off/less work. They hurt business more than they help.

Unions cannot thrive in industries that cannot support their labor contracts. For example, in trucking, LTL generates enough revenues to support union labor while other sectors of trucking cannot due to lower rates and inefficient operation. Union labor contracts transfers the force of efficiency onto management along with management following another set of rules by the contract.

And why are there lower rates ? Because too many wannabes with no bills or obligations are willing to work for any wage to play Billy Bigrigger .

Hahaha! I figures out a long time ago that Friday paydays didn't work. I made our payroll on Mondays. They usually spend it by Friday so no "laying out" and no need to borrow money to eat all week. Gotta be smarter than the idiots!

I have been on both sides of this issue. I have been with 2 unions, one in NY and one in NC. And I have worked for non union jobs. The unions used to be for the workers. Years ago we needed unions to help the workers from getting #### on from the companies. Nowadays the unions are just for the union leadership. They now hurt more than they help. Unions are a big reason why products are so #### expensive right now. Example is cars and trucks. The price still goes up every year and they are not made anywhere near as quality as they once were. And I'm talking years ago, not just 10 or 20. I have seen many people do great for companies that were non union, LOVED their job and there is a line to get in. My brother in law works for NUCOR Steel. There base pay is only $11.00/hr. Now some of you would say that you wouldnt get out of bed for that, but he has never brought home less than $90k a year and has been there for 7 years now. How does he do that you ask. Its called incentive pay. Something unions know nothing about. All they want is everyone paid the same, both good workers and sorry ### workers. Everything my brother in law does gets him bonuses. Being on time, production, safety, etc. The company also shares the wealth. If they do good, the employees do good. They gives bonuses based on the companies productivity and profit. They also give stock options to employees. All this without a union. WOW!!

What a concept, reward people for productiveness and if they are not productive, they can just accept there measly wage of 11/hr.

If you reward unproductiveness, you will create an unproductive society!!!!

One thing I would add because my State Employee Union was affiliated with SEIU. Andy Stern many times stated that he believes that every person in the world doing the same job should get the same pay. With that being said, I know some of you are saying what a great idea, if people is BFE are getting paid $100/yr and people in the peoples republic of california are getting paid $140k/yr, for the same job. Which one do you really think if this happens, your pay would be closer to????? I can honestly say I seriously doubt it will be the 140k. Most big unions now operate on a more socialist/communist principle. Its sad to say but it doesnt make it less true. The unions were once great things for working people in this country. Jimmy Hoffa would be rolling over in his grave if he was alive to see the state of unions today.

They make you watch a 55 min video on why you SHOULD NOT join a union, because they pass the savings on to their drivers....lol:biggrin_2559:
