Are truckers no longer in unions?

    0 because they closed Schneider Transport down around 2003. And the Teamsters were right along beside them. It took the drivers suing Schneider on there own to get pay due to them. The few that took the payoff when they closed it down got the shaft.

    How would you ever organize such a broad independent sector to cause any change? Unions only work in tight knit groups that monitor and maintain the union standards. If truckload groups made an attempt to organize the businesses would simply close up shop as their only option.

    That's right - like Overnite and DHL did . No megacarrier could go union and compete with the nonunion rates of other megacarriers .
    DHL workers organized and thought they could get a company that had never shown a profit to give them over $5 an hour in wage increases over the term of the contract . Within a couple of months DHL pulled out of the U.S. domestic market and thousands of workers were out of jobs . But hey , they were Teamsters. (and better pay their dues )
