hello, i have my 2 year medical card and i'll be getting my CLP soon. i wanna know if you guys think that trucking schools are worth it when there are places near by that i can get my CDL A at for well under $2000. i don't mind taking out a loan for a trucking school if it's absolutely better to go to one.
if it helps, i live in NYC. i don't want to stay in NYC and i to prefer never come back. no criminal history. no issues on driving record.
EDIT: i should specify that company CDL training is my first choice. truck schools/ local schools are if i can't find a company to take me on for training.
are trucking schools worth it?

1st off, welcome aboard, you came to the right place. You will get a varied amount of replies, and may add to the confusion, but if you can't draw a conclusion here, you may as well stop now. Some say yes to your question, I say no. There are many reputable schools out there, buy only half the equation, how about a job, Captain? See, sometimes, certain companies may not endorse whoever you paid dearly to, and the way I figure, if you are committed to doing this, go directly to a company that offers training. We have a member here that will help you with that later, but these companies need drivers so badly, they will guarantee a job, and you may be able to work off the schooling, while getting on the job training as well. I won't sugar coat it, the 1st year will be rough, you probably won't make the promised $95 grand, but you can do it. Almost like military, our country needs you more than ever. Here, at home, not some far away God forsaken desert. Good luck, eh?

and i've been looking into this job for many months now. i get that it probably won't be great my first year, but that's fine. also i really wanna do OTR. -
I'd go to a school if you can and look for a local company (like food service or construction) to take you on instead of "living" like a slave.

If you want to get out of NY or anywhere frankly, yes trucking can help you do that. I am very minimalist in how I live my life and since I got back into trucking roughly 2.5 years ago I have pretty much been living out of a truck and my personal vehicle.
It has worked out for me, for the first year I worked for Roehl Transport and completed their GYCDL program. Roehl trucks are more than decent and most of their terminals have bunk rooms to sleep in indoors if you can get one.
This calendar year I have been staying in hotels and Air BNB every weekend and it is no more expensive than getting an apartment or house. -
Do you know anyone in another state that will let you use their address just long enough to acquire a cdl?

I'll give you a list of companies to apply with.
