My husband has only been a O/O for the last year driving a dry van under Landstar out of Savannah (company driver for 10 yrs). When he first started with them the RPM was good and loads frequent. Now its seems the loads are significantly dry with low/average RPM. We have considered looking at other companies such as RoadOne but don't want to jump from one bad situation into another. We also considered going the Freight Agent route but we don't know who to actually trust. Don't know if it's the area we're in, the company he drives for, or quite frankly us.We are new to this and would really appreciate any guidance or suggestions. I've doing some research and continue to get conflicting or old information about various companies.

The only way you could get any help or advice from anyone really is to let us know what your average RPM is. Also, where are you running?

Rates are down across the board this year. Too many trucks, not an abundance of freight. Read any major publication and you'll see that, unless you have a prior contract, rates are down between 18 and 20%. So...if you're accustomed to $3/mile freight it's going to be around $2.25 - 2.50 now. Jumping to a different company won't solve the problem, especially if it's a smaller one.

Check out getting your own authority, and your own loads, Like pulling for Amazon, or USPS, or a specific pack house.. Sometimes we have not because we do not ask.

Only pull for Amazon if you want to lose your ###. NEMF went under because they allowed Amazon too much capacity and other carriers have dumped Bezos as soon as their contract was up. Take a good look at who is pulling those smiling blue trailers...bottom feeders, known cheap freight creators and lots and lots of volvos running to fast for conditions (we all know who THEY are).

Thank you. I have been reading about the low rates and we have been coming to terms with it. Its the lack of freight that has my mind blown. I also come across alot of posts TD FB groups that some O/O are doing great and have tons of freights. So it has confused me.

Contracts signed last year will keep the freight coming for this year. Landstar, I believe, runs quite a bit off the spot market (i.e. no contract).

The point of the post was not Amazon, was to stop using brokers and go go get your own accounts setup before you step off the curb, part of that is to evaluate each and everyone of them. I know several O/O that pull dedicated for amazon that are happy with them, dont know about the gossip or the rates I dont do Amazon my self.

Are drivers with the own authority doing better? Getting our own authority is differently something we have been considering. I have read some negatives things about places like Uber Freight and Amazon. Its hard to know where the truth falls. Like I said we are new to the O/O field, what is a pack house?
