How do we know the numbers the media are posting are real? Can’t trust anything they tell us. You have to look around and see, smell, and taste whats going on. I’d trust gut feelings from old timers that have seen lots of deferent decades over the generations and can actually remember what happened in the past then the ones nowadays that are giving us info because they know nothing about history or can even remember what happened 6 months ago let alone back in 2008. And more importantly they have a narrative and agenda that they disparately need to look good no matter what.
Siinman, Rideandrepair and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
That makes a big difference.
Relying on yourself to fix something vs hoping a driver has a brain.
When hiring drivers, new trucks seems reasonable, chances are good that anything that causes a hiccup on the road is going to be a mechanic call, not your driver.Siinman, Rideandrepair and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
Ouch, my condolences on the untimely death of your engine, drop me a lineSiinman, Rideandrepair, Tug Toy and 1 other person Thank this. -
But hey, beggars can't be choosers and I sure took advantage of a bunch of people needing a truck in my time lol. And I'm not complaining about that, I was honest greatful (then and now) anyone was willing and able to come rescue the load. It could have been much worse.
My insurance covered the tow home (Thanks Great West!) Which I promptly canceled after I got reimbursed lol. Then the guy where I was leased let me hop in one of his spare trucks and run it like my own on a 1099 deal until I figured out my next move. That helped me out tremendoously keeping me from job hopping as I had been there about 6 years and not really keen on getting a throwaway job somewhere temporarily but helped him out too because I was able to go retrieve his trailer a 1,300+ miles away from the yard in Florida, lol, thanks Chris!

Rates keep going lower and lower.
Is actually slowing down headed into holiday season.
Watched today $2 a mile flying off the board from midwest to Northeast for Van.
$1.60 from Texas to Northeast.
And you know you'll be coming out for peanuts leaving the Northeast.bzinger, Siinman, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -

That’s awful @Rideandrepair Im really sorry to hear that. Somehow, someway it sure would be sad to see you give up. Or maybe more accurate would be to give in. Hearing your stories the last few years about hard times and the Great Recession, etc is inspiring. I hope somehow you figure a way to dig deep and once again make it past this. Take care and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.

I'm hearing too many bad stories. Better to be ignorant at times.
Makes one feel a bit better at night.
So, long everyone. Have a great night.Last edited: Oct 26, 2023
