I could make a endless list of thongs I saw while I was working on that glider.... I was not impreesed .. like you said you have to use the serial # issue for the motor from Fitzgerald because everything is just cobled together .. which is of no valve at a Detroit shop.. so your forced to deal with Fitzgerald and they are not the most accommodating
I will never touch on of the mess again

If you don’t mind. What was the problem/diagnosis? What got replaced Head and gasket? Liner? Head cracked? Liner fire ring damaged? PM if you want. Either way. Looks like I’ve hijacked this thread enough.

I had replace the head because it kept blowing the exhaust gaskets on the #1 cyl... because Fitzgerald had drilled & helicoiled both bolt holes and it wouldn't hold the helicoils they put in and the machine shop said the holes were not drilled corrrecty and said they couldn't repair it .. so the owner elected to put a remain head on

The fuel cost does not reflect my discounts, this is just pump price cost. So it is lower than what I posted just a FYI.

I have a 5 Year everything basically on warranty and 500K. So for the 5 Years I plan on owning the truck at most I will have just basic maintenance like tires and whatnots.

My PM service is once every 55-60K and gonna guess yours is closer to 15K. So you do 3-4 times more service more service then mine and might have more down time or may not depending on how you do them.

How much down time have you had with your 25 year old truck? This is a big issue for me as I want to make sure my clients that I work with are getting first class service and never late or missed any appointments. That alone is worth the extra money in my eyes in making my reputation first class.

Also I owned a 2014 truck for 3 years and put in 25K a year on maintenance on average. So based on my experience with a used truck I am saving money. Not all old trucks will be great or bad but that was my experience.

I can't remember who had a thread about how he went out of business because he was not prepared because of these kind of numbers on maintenance. He got lucky for two years and then all hell broke lose and he could not afford the 15K or whatever it was cost to fix the truck. He had around 5K max a year for the first two years of operation. Then had a few failures that was 5K plus and then the big one and killed his business because he did not plan on those kind of issues.

Like I said on my other reply I ended up with average of 25K a year on 3 years of running a 2014. Not saying you will have those kind of issues but it can happen pretty easy.

The cost of my truck payment is just part of doing business in my eyes. No reason to be scared of it if you can manage it.

150K and not one break down that has put me on a tow hook. I had one issue with a hose clamp but that was fixed pretty easy.

Always depends on the shop and if you have a good relationship. I get along great with the dealer in my area and can call them anytime if on the road and at another shop to help me out. They have sent parts to me in the middle of MT overnight for free to get me going on my older truck I had.

You've got very lucky buying a new truck at a low price, at a low interest rate just before the freight rates exploded. And still you have to pay almost 6K every month for the equipment and the insurance.
