I ended up with 6% with Paccar. But that was 2 years ago. I’m sure it’s higher now.

It was a real cat place. They could have been lying on the work order writeup, but nothing indicated it was significantly worse than that.

600-700k on that, so i dont know that they were wrong, but dont know they were right either since i wasnt there and didnt do it myself...

So it was a CAT only shop? Or a CAT certified shop that also works on Cummins, Detroit, and Volvo? I'm just curious exactly what specific Caterpillar franchise shop would have recommended you just needed a head gasket replaced instead of actually fixing the real problem because I'm surprised that any of them would say "you just need a new head gasket".

Mcallister cat not a cat shop?

Lets be clear, they said that it seems like the headgasket sight unseen since i already had decided it was getting an inframe before it was on the lot.

It was late 2014, i had done enough research and needed a big breakdown even if under warranty like i needed another hole in my head, so there wasnt a whole lot of discussion and its entirely possible that their recommendation was to check it down to the headgasket and then diagnose further. But the repair order didnt tell me much beyond that the cam was also replaced for flaking, and they epoxied some marginal pitting in the lower cylinder bores.

If it was a cracked sleeve or broken block, im pretty sure that would have shown up...

But again, 9 years later, she still runs (if a little leakier than i prefer) with nothing done to the guts of the engine after a platinum rebuild

Dealer gets paid from warranty pretty much the same as they would from a great customer. I would assume they did you right. Your longevity reaffirms that

Ok that makes sense, some details were left out. Originally it read kind of like the shop said "it needs a new head gasket". Further details cleared things up but believe it or not lots of shops will actually say "a new head gasket is what it needs". But not one that actually warranties what they work on will ever say that...

Made it home 675 miles. Never added any coolant. Drained some oil, expecting to get a bunch of coolant. None at all. Makes no sense to me. When it was hydrolocked, I drained 1/2 gallon. I got it going thanks to @BoxCarKidd . He’s a genius. He patiently talked me through the whole process to get it unlocked. Using a breaker bar on the accessory drive, holding pressure on it, forcing the coolant past the rings into the oil pan. Got it turning. Continued around about 6 more times. Then removing ecm fuse, cranking it to remove any coolant left. It locked up again at first. Starters not strong enough to damage anything. I barred it over a few times again. Then cranked it over again. Good to go. Put fuse in and started it up. That’s stuff they don’t teach in school. I can’t thank him enough. That’s about the 4th time he’s bailed me out. Taking time to explain things when I’m stumped or in over my head. All out of kindness. Very rare these days. Learned a lot from him. For instance, Im lucky it didn’t fire off and start running before hydrolocking. Would have destroyed other parts of the engine. Good thing it’s been losing prime lately. Lol. What a deal. Could have been much worse. Thank God for people like @BoxCarKidd willing to help out of the goodness of their heart. I’m so grateful and humbled by him. I can’t Thank him enough.

Was not hard to see Fuel Prices was gonna get out of control and already seen the short coming of trucks coming off the lines. Covid hard made a lot of things like that predictable to be honest. Maybe someone that does not take an interest in production and oil may of not seen it I guess. You can read back through a lot of my replies during that time and see that is why I wanted to get a new truck and the reason I ordered one.
