I pay 5k a year per kid for private school in Oregon. Can’t trust the public schools in this state. Don’t want my kid coming home wanting to change parts.
Are we fixing to see a huge purge in trucking?

As soon as a new load gets posted it’s gone. Volume seems to have fallen off a cliff. Rates going down even more. What a disaster. I’m really questioning why I’m wasting my time doing this. I seriously doubt any backlash in rates will be anything spectacular, or last any amount of time. Just a slow steady increase, barely enough to get freight moved. The Big Brokerages need to go. They’ve ruined the whole Industry. Having Authority means nothing anymore. The Independents have now taken the place of low paid mega trained first year Drivers. The only difference is instead of running. 54 mph in the middle lane, they’re racing everywhere, through Truckstop parking lots, construction zones, bright lights glaring, 3 gps, 2 Toll transponders, blocking their vision, watching TV on a mounted laptop, texting or talking on the phone, wearing earphones constantly, everywhere they go. Had a new O/O asking me about the rates. He’s making 90% of $1.70 pm average. Paying trailer rental, getting charged back for everything. No copies of rate cons, wanted to know how fuel cost is written off, depending on if he used the fuel card and had it deducted, or paid out of pocket. I tried 3x to explain it doesn’t matter. He didn’t even know what a 1099 was. I gave up. I’ll say though, he did get a good deal on 2020 Cascadia for $40k. Considering that there’s going to be more and more equipment at lower prices. There’s just going to be more O/Os. Driving School near home is packed full of new students. Like every Truck driver I’ve ever met, they each have a plan. The cycle continues. Rant over.

I asked my carrier why all the cheap freight is flying off the board.
They said people just desperate to make their over inflated truck payments and hope better days ahead.PPLC, Rideandrepair, FLHT and 1 other person Thank this. -
That’s exactly what I told my old man. Broke folks trying to run a business.

Mine is 3500 a month and doing just fine. Not a big deal as I save more in fuel than my old truck did.
Jubal Early Times, Rideandrepair, Concorde and 2 others Thank this. -
Youre on average 13 cents better fuel mileage than i am, with 7x the truck payment... for a 25 year newer vehicle. ($570/ mo on this for the next 2 years, dogcrap interest)
So you save 1200$ in a month in fuel less, assuming your truck maint to be 0$ a month, but mine to be 1000$
Im ignoring tires washes etc, because those should be about the same
So given all that, Then you would be spending 730$ more a month.
Then the question of what term is your payment on, mine is only 3 years, for yours to be 3 years, thats a 126k truck, so 140k with equivalent interest and downpayment. The longer your term, the worse it seems.
Where else are you saving money? Or are you just banking on resale?
Not saying youre wrong, certainly not saying im right, just the fuel savings and maintenance alone dont seem to justify a newer vehicle for me.Siinman, Cdemars316, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this.
