The big wild card is always the repairs/downtime. All different ideas about what’s best. New or old, doesn’t matter. The only guarantee is that something unexpected will happen.

What’s wrong with that? Fuel would only cost me about $180 not including deadheading in and out..

    Hook a brother up! :)

Speaking of Florida..Insurance rates have gone up like 30% with the rest of the country seeing 17% increase.

Like being struck by lightning :)
Picture is from my dash cam of the exact moment. Had I not been rolling video I would’ve likely been denied the insurance claim.

    Ha

Ueah , when I was running oddball freight I used to get loads to Florida and if they didn’t pay enough compensate for driving back to Atlanta or Biloxi I just refused the load

I always turned down “it will pay for your fuel “ loads , Becaue while that’s correct , it also takes at least one entire day , to drive 3 hours out of the way , spend 3 or 5 hours getting loaded , and do the same on the other end , when I could deadhead back to Biloxi and grab another load of bananas . Back then bananas out of Biloxi paid nearly double of normal freight and they were already loaded and usually a 3 hour unload at the destination , which was perfect for napping before coming back to Biloxi .
In 1996 I was getting $1.25 a mile to the truck and fuel was hovering around a dollar a gallon , and my rig cost me $14k cash

in the late 90s when freight crashed and paid nothing and fuel spiked , I just sold the truck and got a normal 8-5 job to be home with the new baby’s.

It's already starting to turn ugly for brokers. My company's fine; but others I know are starting to not look particularly solid. Nature of the beast.

Awesome story man. Love it. Yeah the small town Christian academy type school is good so far. I only planned to keep him there for preschool and kindergarten because of no mask mandate during Covid but now with all the crazy crap going on even in small town public schools then we’ve kept him there for first grade.

I’m a big believer in learning more at home with your family then in school but not picking up bad influence and mind corruption is something we have to pay a lot of attention to especially nowadays.

    Book smart and street smart.

Like that freight waves article said… if a company is in trouble now, it’s only going to accelerate as spot maintains and contract dips, and especially as spot increases and contract is locked in. Ouch. Bad day at the office and especially if their receivables are mortgaged and paying higher rates. Might be a broker blood bath over the next 6 to 12 months.

It is kind of funny/interesting the perspectives. I do a lot of time sensitive gotta be there stuff too and is a big reason I have new stuff! lol

I can’t be sitting on the side of the road 1000 or 2000 miles away. And like FLD said… I have enough freakin headaches to deal with, having trucks broke down or drivers unhappy with their truck and leaving is not additional headache I need or want, nor is finding mechanics to hire full time. That’s probably the only thing harder then hiring the driver themselves! Heck with that.
