Ooh yes, people of all walks for sure doing their thing. I just wonder how the older guys feel to see all these newbies blowing up the industry and haveing it so much easier. I don't know if this is just how the future works with jobs of such, but man i gotta give props to all the older drivers that put in their time. I can't even imagine what it was like before gps or internet phones etc. Maybe alot more money but still.

Y'know what makes me sigh about "your future"? The fact that they're "dumbing it down" for/because of their perception of you. Automatic transmissions.... because they think you're too "stupid" to learn manual trans. On Board Recorders.... because they think you're too dumb to use paper, add and subtract. GPS.... because you're too dense to read an atlas.
This is NOT "old guy envy" this is quotes from management. What you think is "progress" is them turning you into nothing but "steering wheel holders". They want you to be unthinking drones. They want you sitting isolated in your truck when you're not sitting behind the wheel, playing dumb fantasy games on your electronic toys. Used to be truckstops were a gathering point for truckers. We actually talked to each other. Drivers from company A knew what was happening with company B,C,D and all the rest. We knew who treated their drivers with respect. We learned stuff from each other. What do you do now?
Nope, I don't like your future atall.slomocopshow and G/MAN Thank this. -
where do they get all these people that could not get out of the yard without a G.P.S. to tell them where the gate is?...... -

Loads of CANDIDATES just look at HOME DEPOT on a SAturday its loaded with SUV drivers doing the same thing. -
It is rather sad to think that many new drivers cannot even read a map or get along without constant contact with someone via their cell phone. Having a good conversation is becoming a thing of the past. Before long we will not talk but text the guy sitting on the seat next to us in the truck stop. They need an automatic transmission because they hold the steering wheel with one hand and their cell phone with the other. They need another hand if they had to shift gears.
Some things are easier today than when I started. Some are good. We have trucks and sleepers that are more comfortable today. Many of the newer drivers are so dependent on their technology that they would not be able to function if they lost power suddenly. I don't see the self reliance that we had and still do. The independent thought is gone with most new drivers. With some you may as well be a computer. There are so many who cannot think outside the box. There are some exceptions. It is refreshing when I meet a new driver who still has that independent streak. You can see it in their eyes. I don't see most who can even change out a light. They would rather wait for 4 hours for a mechanic to do it for them rather than running and making money. We have turned into a country filled with wusses.DrtyDiesel, FLATBED and Traveler51 Thank this. -
I'm proud to be a truck driver. Some women are turned on by it. Mainly the thought of "having some fun" in the truck.
I didn't get into this career field to find women, I got into it because this is what I've always wanted to do and I couldn't be happier. I make good money and get home on time.
If your embarrassed to be a trucker then your hanging around the wrong girls.
