First embarrassed I am not !! I have made a good living being a Professional Driver , I have raised a son and he is serving our Country and a daughter who works with animals and is a partner with mom in food service , let me tell that if look around you , I would say everything you see got there by truck , it's a proud profession yes there are some that shouldn't be driving but mist of us are very Patriotic and proud Americans there is a lot of pride in this field , anyone can drive , but to be able to safely back into any dock to maneuver in areas that cars can't maneuver in , being a professional driver is a art a skill and not all can do it , but embarrassed I am not I brag what I do and if you have to lie to girls on what you do then quit driving as embarrassed is not what you should feel !!

HELL NO!!!!! there are lawyers and doctors who quit practice to be drivers. This is not an embarrassing career. Its a rewarding one. Not everyone can do your job and being a driver you will make more than most college education jobs. You dont realize the impact american truckers have on our economy. EVERYTHING moves by truck! And if trucks stop so does america. Kids look up from their windows at the man or woman in the truck and admire. Truck drivers arnt bums, or low class people. We are hardworking people of all types of social and economical status. You need to see the moivie BigRig, to get an appreciation of what you do. We have the greatest job in america!

I take it your a first generation driver. You come to realize soon, this aint a job with 9-5 hrs. This is a heritage, a lifestyle, a brotherhood!! Welcome to it.

Yea man, and get this. You can go to school for some career like a specialist but of you get fired its hard to land another job in that field. As drivers the amount of companies are as numerous as stars in sky. You get fired, you can get another job the next day. Being a truck driver is job security. -
You sound pretty young if you are worried that truck driving is not "hipster" enough to impress your friends. I know plenty of hipsters who are broke baristas, living in their mommy's basement, or working as counter clerks getting minimum wage. Yes, there is a "culture" clash when it comes to certain jobs, look at farmers or ranchers. I tend to think that people view truckers as country and western listening smokey and the bandit types. Yes, there is a difference in lifestyle between city hipsters, and truck drivers. Neither is "better" than the other. Bringing home good money, and getting ahead, without debt is a dream that a lot of people can only dream of.

My great grandfather was a trucker, my granddad unloaded trucks, my mom and grandmom hitchhiked on trucks.. (lmao), both my uncles drive trucks. Your starting a heritage here bro. At first this is a tough career to get into bc you have to eat dirt a little. Or alot. But hang in there it will all pay off. Ya knpw the best feeling in the world that no other job compares to? Its having the best office window ( metaphorically speaking ) cranking your tunes and coasting america's highways. I was driving thru Indiana which i would have never seen of it wasnt for trucking, and jaming to some music that just puts you in that driving mood as the sun was setting over wide open farm land. THAT was cool and very good feeling.

What is there to be embarrassed about? At least you have a job and you're not sitting at home bumming money - that would be embarrassing. Many of my family members are either drivers or in the trucking industry and we are all smart, healthy, loving people. That's something to be proud of no matter what you do to put food on the table.
