I'll go against the crowd here and basically agree with you. Lots of people are extremely pretentious about careers and the perceptions they carry. To many, truckers are just blue collar riff-raff...not to be taken seriously or worth getting involved with. It's not the kind of job where you dress well, drive a flashy car and get to rub elbows with people in high places. In short, it's not a high status job that's likely to immediately impress anybody...few jobs do. It's easier for some guys to kick back and declare they don't care no-nuttin' what anybody thinks about what they do for a living, but if you're already happily "situated" in life, it's easy not to worry too much about how anybody outside your family perceives you. Younger guys like the OP who are still trying to make their way in life and have no choice but to worry about how the world views them (especially the broads), I can see this might be a little bit of a touchy topic.

Self esteem issues are self issues. Who cares what people think? I know lawyers who steal from clients. I know doctors who make a living killing babies (not political on the topic but that is what is going on). Why do we hold those people in higher regard then Truck Drivers? Nothing a lawyer does empresses me. There is a man in Kansas City would works for a trailer repair place on the Kansas side. I watched him back three 53 foot trailers. In a train mind you. He put them exactly where he wanted to. That is a skill to be proud of.

Well, it is understandable that when you compete for the kind of girls you say you compete for, mentioning you are a truck driver is not exactly a big turn-on. There is nothing you can do about it . For me saying I am self-employed in transportation industry does the trick. Or that I am retired after inventing a tooth pick. In the dating scene it is actually not advised to reveal too much about yourself anyways, girls like a challenge and mystery.
For example if a chick asks me where I am from and I say from Chicago with my heavy accent or that my name is Habib, I am from India- they laugh . If I say the truth - the joke is over

I could not give a Rats ##### what some jack wagon I don't even know thinks. My only concern is getting home to the people that actually matter.

a 1 month old thread bumping.

Funny you mention elevator mechanic. not sure of the official term. good friend of mine is exactly that. Makes 6 figures and left HS in the 10th grade and no GED. I'm sure he passed a test equivalent to ged to get the job though.
both in our 30's. Not exactly sure how he earned the job be a family member or friend or whatever. either way those hidden non classified jobs or non bragged careers are great.

similar to trucking. where else can you find a job with zero college but a trade skill and make good money.
make 40 to whatever a year.

Trucking is great, so many options in the field. What other field can someone flip flop around and still have zero college and still able to obtain a higher pay by having experience and just working smart. instant gratification of doing things smart and effective. Be it OWNER OPERATOR to COMPANY DRIVER. Work Smart not Hard is the end goal. CDL can make whatever money you want. so many options.

I don,t know what your income is or what kind of truck driver you are, but any truck driver worth a #### is making middle to upper middlei ncome.I will have 30,yrs driving next year and there are few people not many with college degrees who have consistantly over the last 29yrs that have matched or exceeded our income and on top of that we don,t owe decades of student loans to repay,,I have been blessed toh ave a number of things iam proud of and near the top of my list is being a truck dtiver. If you carry yourself like youra re proud of what you do and let me tell, you this there are very few men and women who can do this job and do it well. You will be quite surprise at the number of people you know that will applaud you for the job you do ,,its easy when someone ask what do you you do say with gusto I,m a TRUCK DRIVER,,,and watch there eyes light up,,everybody loves a truck driver even the ones who say they don,t...shakNbak,,

I can't say I am embarrased at all. I am still young and have alot of friends working jobs far worse than mine. I have a few that clean septic tanks during the day and run around with some of the best looking women out there. I think of it this way, I could go home with poo under my finger nails every day from digging up sewage or I can just get dirty throwing my tarps out and make $1500-2k a week in a comfortable job.

Usually people get excited and ask about the places i've been in. I thought people would have negativity towards, but i've gotten nothing but curiosity and a couple of friends who got encouraged to get their CDLs.
