EMBARASSED?You have GOT to be kidding.
1. In my working life I have been a flat roofer, welder, printing press operator and worked my way up in a sawmill to pay-loader op/truck driver. With all these jobs I made high 20's low 30's..Even adjusted to present day it would not amount to..
2. I am going to make around $62,000 this year as a company driver, not too shabby for a 10th grade drop-out. I do have 1yr of College at Mankato State (G.I. Bill) but really..I don't remember much of that.
3. Three years ago I decided to "live" in the Truck and..well..the money in the bank is nothing short of amazing.
4. What % do not make it a year? 70-80% ? Should tell one something right there.
If anything I would never admit to people I were a broker.. -
I was a loan officer for a couple of years ... now that was embarassing.

I drove up to 3 years ago and recently got back into it. During the the last 3 years ran my own business. I was a business development manager making 70k + back in the 90s. But I gotta tell ya, I am happiest moving 45,000 lbs of materials / products 1000 miles across the country! It's the independence, change of scenary, responsiblity, low stress (for me), job security, good pay. I'm on track to make a good salary in just my first year back.
I respect a driver that can consistently move freight safely and efficienty with all the challenges that face them.
THE ONLY THING REALLY MATTERS IS: HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOURSELF, AND THAT YOU LIKE WHAT YOU DO!!!!Last edited: Nov 25, 2012

Nope...not embarrassed at all. I'm 40 years old and just got my CDL last month. I've just retired after 20 years in the Air Force, but I've never been as proud as the day I earned my CDL!!! EMBARRASSED? I never thought of this being an issue....I think maybe you should find something else to do for a living and impress the girls with. Good luck hot shot!

I'm getting into trucking because it's the "family business". My family business is IT work...but recently that market is drying up. The other family business is trucking so I want to give it a shot. I would be more embarrassed to have a house foreclosed than to tell someone I am a trucker.
