I was a O/O for a grand total of one week. My little narrow company mind was discarded as I expanded all the stars in the universe with the knowledge of what the truck wants and needs and how much and when.

It was a final and irrevocable "up yours" to incessant #####ing from family get a job.

WELL I AM A JOB ####.... talk is cheap signing that promissory note and hunting for a freight source was my next task almost the next day.

    One week.

Worth a life time and 41000 dollars. Plus a little time with that 425 kitty on a rockwell 9.

Looking back, she would not have lasted 6+ years. That model freightliner is not able to stand up to 30 years service built on plastic that is why we don't see too many of them anymore.

    In my case totally valid.

The Boss and owner who sold that tractor to me realized Im deaf. he was ... discriminatory. His last words to me as the tearing of that document echoed in the room was this

Deaf people do not drive my #### trucks.

Hes probably dead and cannot make a case of it by now. Which is really good for all concerned.

Three months of ground classes leading to a formal 4 year program structured to turn company into O/Os, a field of 30 tractors for 12 of us.

I picked one. Bought it, signed legally for it first payment due 3 weeks. Following day I was talking to a Coop support fleet to get going with a trailer and load.

I checked that facility sometime ago. They have been out of business for years.

As far as the ADA discrimination, I consulted a lawyer about it and they ruled that I had a case but how much money do I want to commit to a fight against a big money person who obviously is allowed to be stricter than DOT in his selecting of owner operators who lease on indirectly. No deaf people? Great perfectly legal.

They could have told me that 4 months prior.

It was the last time I will do something like that with anyone that has the power to tear something like that in half. I'll do my own tearing and see you (*whoever it is) at the courthouse if you have a problem with it.

If one of my relatives passed and the will provides for it the next tractor I purchase will be cash outright. And whatever I decide to do with it will be resolved in that time. I would have a hell of alot to do. But that is all good.

Yes I'm happy to be an owner operator.
Just like all businesses and employment situations the less debt you have, the happier you will be.

    Good luck

No big repairs to speak of this year, and I have my own rates that my customers already know-the only thing that changes is the fuel surcharge per week depending on the cost of fuel.

Happy? Not exactly, but I don’t hate it. I’d probably be happier being an employee, but that comes at a cost, especially in the long run.

I got into trucking to make the big money. I don’t care if it’s difficult. I think I will eventually build a fleet, so I won’t have to be out on the road. Plus, if I have 20 drivers, that will produce much more money than what I could produce myself on the road, and for the icing on the cake, I’ll be home with my future family every day. I guess at that point I would be happy.
