Being an Owner Operator is overrated. If your doing it for money, you can make just as much if not more money with a good company that offers premium pay and a full benefits package, without the worry of having to take care of your truck with repairs and what not on your off days.

The "good" part is being able to go where you want and when you want... You can take off when you want for as long as you want but the bills associated with the business still keep coming...

I just ran over something in the road tonight that ripped a nasty chunk of rubber out of my steer tire that has 15k miles on it... That's going to cost me $730 when I get up in the morning... If I was a company guy that would cost me $0...

Definitely not the way I wanted to end my night. Be ready for stuff like that, it will happen.

I forgot. I had a stint at CCX long ago. I hated that also. Lasted 5 or 6 weeks. All the crap trucks and stupid rules that didn't suit my ways. Rainy and humid one night, no ac, windows fogging up and had to add some heat on defrost..man did that cab stink..believe you it wasn't me. My foot was burning holding that weak running engine to the floor. Pulled doubles, but didn't really weigh that much. It couldn't get out of its own way.

Well I'm not a true owner op YET. I bought a truck and leased on to a company for the time being. Would I do it again? Yes. Why? Even while being leased on I have more freedom. Day off? Whenever I want to. Load sucks? I wont take it. The down side? When I get a flat and call my boss I just hear my voicemail after dialing my own number

    Happy? I would say "content"..

I will say this from the bottom of my heart....
I been blessed with a supportive family and a TON of good luck...
I am able to enjoy the fruits of my labor these days primarily from long hours year after year.

I don't care how good you are, smart you are and savvy one is.......you will need lots of luck in this business....

God bless, and wish you the best!

If the young drivers ask me for advice, I tell them don't work so hard, get in with the teamsters...you'll live better, they rarely listen.
