I agree, that's my point. I have repeatedly gone over the numbers fine tuning them and running scenarios. Most weeks based on estimates I would realistically pocket 700 for myself. Not a good payday for all the liability I would take on. If I could count on better per mile averages, and less fees from the company maybe.

How many companies have you looked at? What about your own authority? What per mile all Hub miles dollar amount are you figuring? If you care to what are your expense numbers that you have come up with?

As you know yourself, your current numbers don’t work short or long term. So, let’s either find a different company or solution, make sure the numbers are correct on the expense side, and figure out something that is feasible and worth the risk.

The company I was looking at was van, and uses the normal load boards. Their fixed costs were about 400 a week including trailer rental. Then my truck on top of that. Load boards are showing about 1.70 a mile right now which isn't worth turning the truck on. The company is 25/75 split on pay. I know I could do it all, just need a company that doesn't cost so much-needed maybe one with dedicated customers at least at 2.00 a mile and not begging on load boards.

My two cents....if you’re leasing onto a company they should offer direct customers. There is no sense in leasing on and giving up a percentage for someone to basically hunt load board freight for you and pay you once a week.

Second, when you are looking at places to lease on don’t get hung up on the percentages. Look and see what you’ll be getting to your truck, that’s the only number that matters.

So I agree with @Midwest Trucker . Don’t give up just because the numbers from one place don’t work out. Shop around a little bit if you know you absolutely want to own a truck.

I was happy and confident as O/O until I read this thread.

Now I think it's too hard and I'm going to go JBHUNT and stay out for 180 days at a time.

I'm not worried cause my dm will be friend.

If you even need to ask, "Should I be an O/O?"
You have already answered your own question.

Not an intelligent response, but ok. My question was to gauge the freedom side of it, being that most numbers show that wiring for a company is the same bottom line pay. The fact that this somehow triggers you means you seem to have a problem with your decision.

I resent that Remark lol My DM and I are not best buds and Cats are stupid ! No but seriously being a O/O is not all fun and games , I'm staying positive my Bill's are easy to cover but I know others who have high equipment payments that are struggling. It's all good I keep these wheels turning.

I am looking around, I figure if the truck gets 2.00 a mile I will be able to justify, but the 1.35 a lot of places are offering are just theft. Anyone know of a place that can offer 2 or better?

2.00 to the truck means 2.50 or better gross before they take their cut. I don’t do general freight but I would imagine if guys were running around at 2.50+ all miles they wouldn’t be complaining right now. Last quarter I was 2.37 all miles doing food grade pneumatic and that put me at 1.73 to me after their cut. I provide power only, they own the trailer.

That would be close enough depending on the company fixed costs. Who do you work with?
