Aren't we supposed to dump the air bags before we slide the 5th wheel?

You don't need to. You want to. Should always be checking out other people's ways. It would take ten lifetimes to figure all these tips out on your own.

For example - how do you personally slide your fifth wheel? Set trailer brakes, release fifth wheel, try to move and hope it works on the first try? If not, yank on the truck some, get a hammer, etc. Maybe you do, maybe you don't.

Want to know how I do it? Lower landing gear all the way to the ground. Set trailer brakes. Dump truck suspension. Now there's no weight on the fifth wheel, and it always moves easy as pie.

Again... learned it on YouTube. Why? Because if you see ten different ways, then you get to pick the one you like best. But you never get to see those ways if you don't look

Or you could just reread what you read earlier today instead of starting a new thread.

Now do you still wonder why people wonder if your just trolling?

I honestly can’t even think of the last time I slid a 5th wheel, set it center of drives/one notch to front and roll

    Nope.

And I still don't see any legitimate reason not to include dumping the air out of the air bags in the instructions on how to slide the 5th wheel.

"It's just common sense"----Then why not just tell readers that the fifth wheel slide button locks and unlocks the fifth wheel so the fifth wheel can slide and leave the instructions saying nothing else because it is just common sense from there?

I slide my fifth wheel at least two or three times per year.

Is this the guy from the turning radius thread that was like 30 pages long on how to turn a trailer?

I slide my fifth wheel by hand to where i want it then lock it.

I’ve got a low boy (float) that has a short gooseneck (manufacturer stupidity) which needs the fifth wheel skid back 8 inches or my frame rails and mud flaps get caught in the trailer.

Then the other trailers I slide ahead to maximize weight.

Other times it’s hooked to the trailer. Engage parking brakes, lower the landing gear to the ground and dump the truck air bags. Move the truck and lock the slide in place.

I would get rolling slowly, after flipping the 5th wheel slide toggle, then pull down on the Johnny bar a little, 5th slides no problem. I never slide the 5th wheel from a dead stop, but that’s me.
