Aren't we supposed to dump the air bags before we slide the 5th wheel?

I doubt that you or anyone else could slide my fifth wheel by hand. It's not made for that.

Technically that would still be by hand.

Then I retract what I wrote in post #22. I stand corrected.

What do you make of the fact that the Delmar book I referenced does not include dumping the air bags in the instructions of how to slide the fifth wheel?

Not all trucks have air suspension. Some that do have air suspension don't have the ability to dump the air.

Its not really a one-size fits all thing.

Some trailers don't even have landing gear. Some don't have landing gear that can be cranked (just drop legs).

In the same book, the author said to dump the air bags when uncoupling from a trailer.

I've been to thousands of shippers and receivers in my career. I've NEVER seen a trailer that does not have a landing gear that can be cranked. I think it's safe to say that 99.99%+ trailers have landing gear that can be cranked. Why not give instructions to dump the air bags if the truck has that button and to extend the landing gear until the air dumps out of the air bags if you don't have the "dump air bags" button?

Someone else mentioned it already and I agree.
If you crank the landing gear all the way to the ground and then dump your air bags the truck will basically be hanging from the king pin.

No landing grear on these trailers.. I don't belive I've ever seen a RGN with a lading gear either and I'am pretty sure they acount for more than .01% of the trailers 20211209_095320.jpg
My trucks don't have buttons for suspension dump either they have switchs
