Aren't we supposed to dump the air bags before we slide the 5th wheel?

RGN, livestock trailer, belly dumps, some highboys, some logging trailers, single axle jeeps.

Just a few examples of trailers I've seen that don't always have landing gear/landing gear with a crank.

Nobody can explain why the book included "drop the air bags" when uncoupling from a trailer but not for sliding the fifth wheel.

Here's my advice then... since nobody can supply you with a satisfactory explanation then S.T.F.U and hire a good attorney to get you a refund on the Manuel you bought so you can learn how to drive a truck..
    Problem solved !!

On that book you will find an author, you can write the author and ask him/her why and what they included or didn’t include and get back to us on that! A lot of us would love to know the answers to your questions!

Or you could just start another thread?

Legend has it, swift was trying to slide his 5th wheel but he didn’t read the manual.

Because the author doesn't know everything. Remember what I told you about ten lifetimes? Well don't throw that book away. Read it. Then read nine more perspectives. Then pick the best ways to do what you need to do.

He said to dump the bags when dropping the trailer. He got that one right. Now you don't have to do that when you drop the trailer, or when you slide the fifth wheel. But doing so is better. It's easier on the equipment, and while it seems like extra steps....slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

These trailers use pins in landing gear. No crank at all. Just pull the clasp off, pull pin, drop the leg down, find the nearest hole, put the pin in and lock it. Repeat for the other side.

Sucks for trucks that have different ride heights or legs sunk into the ground lol.

Mine is used enough that I can actually pull it by hand. Only pry bar if there’s crap in the slides or if it’s dirty enough, use the trailer to move it, then it slides easy.

Back when I had a 75' Carhauler, I'd keep the 5th wheel slider painted with Slip Plate (graphite paint) so I could slide it while rolling. 6th gear and light throttle or mid - rpm Jake would do the trick.

We often had to stretch out for turning clearance, and some states would watch to see if we were stretched out going down the road, so it saved a lot of stopping if you could slide on the move.

Legend has it that the Swift driver dropped his trailer without cranking the landing gear down.
