Aren't we supposed to dump the air bags before we slide the 5th wheel?

Well, I had one tell me they can squirt a little on the deck of a rollback and a car will slide up on it pretty easy.

    Hammer166 and Shawn2130 Thank this.

I also seen how difficult Armour All is on paint when it comes a time to repaint a vehicle.

The frustration from a painter guy over how many times he had to strip the paint and repaint.

I just flip the switch and mash on the motor usually and BAM right where I need it, but honestly I didn't know this little landing gear down until the air pressure is released detail.

Ever picked up a drop trailer in Laredo, El Paso or Otay Mesa? No crank handle, glad hand seals and likely missing some lights

In the PRE-NAFTA days, the trailers usually came back north with worn out tires, too.

Peterbilt first offered “stabile air” on the 351’s in 1964. It was what would later become the FL “airliner” suspension. The traditional tried and true AirTrac came along in ‘67. Anyway. None of them had a way of manually dumping the suspension for around 30 years. I believe the 379 era was the first time the “button” was ever installed on the dash. And then only as an option. Suspension dump valves are a relatively new thing and most came along years after the “books” were written.

Come to think of it up until 25-30 years ago 95-99% of trucks didn’t have slideing fifthwheels. That was a “large car” option.

I always used bar oil for a chainsaw to lube the 5th wheel sliders.

Some companies don’t have suspension dumps on tractors. Or power dividers. Some don’t even have sliding fifth wheels period.

And those companies have yet to learn the very important maxim:

Those who try to idiot-proof have vastly underestimated the power of stupidity.
