Arizona restricts trucks, certain trailers on roads near Prescott

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced several ongoing restrictions and a few temporary bans on truck traffic in the Prescott district.

Arizona Route 89A Trucks with trailers that are more than 50 feet long are prohibited from driving on Route 89A in the Mingus Mountain area. This restriction applies to northbound traffic beginning at milepost 320 near Glassford Hill Road, and at milepost 330 near Old Fain Road. The same rule applies to southbound traffic beginning at milepost 349 in Clarkdale.

Arizona Route 89 Trucks with trailers that are more than 40 feet long are prohibited from driving on Route 89 near Kirkland Junction. This applies to northbound traffic at milepost 295 near Wilhoit and milepost 310 near Prescott.

Also, Yavapai County has load restrictions on Williamson Valley Road northwest of Prescott.
There are also two bans on wide loads because of construction, DOT spokesman Bill Williams told Land Line.

Arizona Route 169 at the Agua Fria Bridge the state is replacing the bridge over the Agua Fria and has imposed a load width limit of 10 feet.

Arizona Route 260 near Cottonwood the state is widening Route 260 and initiated a load width limit of 13 feet limit near the eastern edge of Cottonwood following a recent truck incident.

Occasionally, truck drivers will Google or MapQuest a shorter route that leads them onto ADOT highways where there are restrictions, so please make a note of our regulation, the agencys announcement stated. The Department of Public Safety has informed us that they will give tickets to violators.

I looked at routes 89 and 89A in the atlas. They go through the Prescott National Forest. Any trucker who checked a map and chose to follow those zig-zag routes with all of the braking and down-shifting would be a fool. Of course, the state is concerned that the trailer will be over the center line in curves to the left, and rubbing the guard rail in curves to the right.
