Accredited School
An accredited school is a school that is eligible to participate in certain federal student aid programs. This might be a college or graduate school, or a vocational or trade school. Most major colleges and universities are accredited. Contact your school to determine if it is accredited.

Don't the Alamo Colleges down in SA have a CDL-A course? They would definitely be accredited.
If you don't mind traveling, Coastal Bend in Alice and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi have schools. The one at Del Mar is supposed to be really good. It's relatively cheap at $3500, and apparently they limit class size to three people. Also, they have a program that you can enroll in that pays 75% of your tuition, so it will only cost you about $750 out-of-pocket. You can also find grants that will cover that part too, but you'll need to do some research on that.
I'm going to be laid off in a couple months and as soon as I am, I am off to the Del Mar school. Already got the go-ahead on the tuition grant and have applied for my TWIC Card. Now, I just gotta get thru the school and get the licences and endorsements.
BTW, this thread is great. Hell, this whole forum is great. Thanks everyone!Last edited: Aug 1, 2013

If you attend a PTDI and SAGE CDL program, how could you do any better? Without a doubt this would be considered an accredited CDL program.

You are definitely right about that however, sometimes, you just have to be sure because accredited could mean accredited by the american truck drivers association or whatnot. Im sure they have a list of acceptable schos to graduate from. Im just want to be sure before I drop $4400 on sage. I am leaning towards them become everything is pointing me in their direction, but...

Hey Arky, they got you living in the truck with no wifi??

The training adventure is nearing it's end...hopefully on a good note

So far, it's good. Finding these wells can be a problem, but I think I'll be able to work that out too. It has been a challenge to learn everything, but I'm getting it down slowly, but surely.
I'll post more about the training later when I have more time.TruckinBuc and RSQ Diver Thank this. -

Arky, what is the base hourly rate of pay? It says this in addition to barrel pay and mileage. BTW Goodwill just became officially accredited so I am very glad, and ive just started learning the double clutch. Have a nice one.
-
The base hourly rate of pay comes in when you aren't driving. Such as waiting to load, unload, safety meetings, training, breakdown etcetera. There are stipulations as to what each pays and what has to happen to get it. That's just a quick explanation.
-
This sounds like the delicate way of saying they don't like paying the hourly wage.
