I have been in the Ms ARNG for the past seven years. If I tell them I wont be to drill and why, either they tell me I have to be there or I can make it up or be counted as approved absent. This past drill I tried to miss so I could go to orientation and was told I had to be there. We were going to shoot crew serve weapons and I could not miss. In my experience as long as you let them know you are missing because you are out of town and not because you are sleeping on your couch I have seen them to be more understanding.

By law they have to make time for your drill. To hire you is not a requirement. They can also let you go if you tell them after the fact if you live in a "At Will" state. An "At Will" state they don't even need a reason why.

I was active duty my first OTR job. I ran 7 southern states Fri-Sun and the company got me back to work every monday morning. Even if I broke down I could switch and get a different tractor from Ryder if need be. But that was that company. You need to talk with the company and watch how they react to the situation.

If you miss drill time you may be listed as awol. As far as them coming after you I don't think it will ever happen. We had a guy that was gone for 8 years and came back because he was tired of hiding. You would be hiding but they won't come after you like they all say they will.
