And why is that? The co driver covered his own ### in case the company called and needed them to abandon their 34 and run off recap to go get a load. "Um yeah, we can't leave just yet. Bob got arrested yesterday morning and hasn't made bail yet"

Thank you. Please understand trucking is all I know. I did some local class B stuff, but I am the son of a trucker and had many uncles that were truckers. I have come over the years to have a protective nature especially with new drivers. I want these new drivers to have long productive careers in this industry. I am working with a young man right now who just got his permit Friday morning. I am not sure but I think he starts school in about 3 weeks. This stuff is a labor of love for me, because I want these new drivers to do well.

Just because they were taking a 34 doesn't mean they were out of hours. Perhaps they asked for the weekend off because they were in Florida or maybe their next load didn't pick up till Monday.

Absolutely, I remember many times when freight was slow asking my FM for an extra day to reset my hours, wash my clothes and sleep so when the load come in I was fresh clean and my batteries fully charged.

Then he could simply say he is off duty and that he has no idea where he is. Is it in the job description to keep up with your co driver off duty?

Thats why i think the op used his one call to tell the co driver he was in county, co driver propbly fearing some bs from the company called to cover his ###. And the poo hit the fan

This too me doesn't appear to be a big deal. Some have said that it's good that an "irresponsible" driver was taken off the road. Only one problem with that, he wasn't driving, attempting to drive or contemplating driving for a while so how is he an irresponsible driver?

If he was driving then that would make him one but the man partook in a legal activity that in no way impacted his load, his truck or the safety of the motoring public.
He got drunk and maybe rowdy, heck if that's a country song it would have been a hit.
